As the sun started to break the horizon, the thought that came to mind was a scene from the 2010 Tron movie. Yes, I'm a movie nerd, accept that fact, and quickly too. But the particular scene I'm referring to is between Sam and Quorra on the Solar Sailer as their heading towards the portal, toward the real world.
"It's how I imagine a sunrise to be..." Quorra said, staring longing at the portal in the distance.
Sam sighed wit ha small smile. "Trust me, there's no comparison."
Quorra looked at him, and opened her mouth to ask a question. She hesitated, thinking, then pushed on. "What's it like?" she asked innocently.
Sam raised his eyes brows as he continued to stare at the portal. "The sun?" he clarified. Quorra nodded, and he answered her. "I've never had to describe it before." he admitted. At this, Quorra looked back at the portal, her face etched with curiosity.
Sam continued. "Warm... and radiant."
Sam Flynn was completely and totally right. Nothing compares to a sunrise, or a sunset for that matter. And he was also right about his description. The sun is truly glorious. Much like Quorra did after Sam finished his explanation, I tilted my head back, closed my eyes and smiled as the morning rays washed over my face.
"Hi, Dad." I murmured, and my grin grew as the warmth grew throughout my body in a form of greeting from the sun god.
Today was my last day at Camp Half-Blood. Today marked the completion of my second summer as a knowledgeable demigod. But I was trying desperately not to think about all of that. I wasn't thinking about everything I had to do before my mom came to pick me up at 6 tonight. Right now, I was going to stand here, facing the new day as the sun rose and simply enjoy this moment.
I heard footsteps against the grass coming from behind me, but I didn't turn or react. Moments later, arms wrapped themselves around my waist and pulled my body back slightly. They adjusted me against the curve of their body that I fit perfectly against. I sighed contently as I laid my own arms over their's, and I heard a similar reaction from them as well. However, the warm greeting from my father vanished, his only sign of his disapproval in my choice of a boyfriend.
"You're up early." I observed lightly.
I felt him shrug. "Hmm." Nico replied. "Maybe I just wanted some alone time."
I smirked. "Is someone going to miss me?" I asked. My fingers started tracing circles on his hands and wrists, enjoying the feel of his bare arms. However, I had no doubt that he was wearing his normal black t-shirt, dark jeans, with his silver skull ring rested his middle finger, a constant cold radiating from it.
He leaned forward so his lips brushed my ear. "You have no idea." he whispered. I giggled slightly as I suppressed a shiver.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I, Andrea Winterson, have fallen utterly and completely for Nico de Angelo, the son of Hades. But the best part about the whole thing is that when I fell, he was there to catch me. This whole thing transpired last summer, when I was given a quest involving Thanatos. The prophetic run-in with the god of death was almost the end of both of us, because Thanatos had captured Nico to stop a prophecy centered around yours truly, moi.
You see, when the Titan King, Chronus, made his rise again a few years ago, Thanatos had sided with him. This proved faulty when Chronus fell, and so Thanatos was left begging for forgiveness. He however kept the army he had raised with the expectation that he would try to bring down the Olympians himself. But a prophecy had been made about a demigod that could bring down the god of the death, and that demigod happened to be me. And so, on my quest, Thanatos caught Nico off-guard and dragged him to the Underworld. The only way to save him was my total surrender, and my death by Thanatos' hand. This made the whole "Death must perish by Light's bow" line of the prophecy very, very difficult.
