Luke goes home that night with thoughts of Calum running through his head.

Eventually, it's two in the morning, and his nostalgia overcomes him. He can't help but think back to their past...

It began in little ways.

Since day one, Luke thought Calum was hot. He tried his best to conceal his blushes around the attractive boy, and kept his blue eyes low when he was around.

Calum thought Luke was adorable. He never had a boyfriend before, but he knew that he wanted Luke. The blonde was bashful and beautiful, and he was smitten.

So, Calum took it upon himself to make Luke notice him.

He started with smiles that were just a bit too wide, and staring at him for just a little too long. Sometimes they'd even have eye contact; however, Luke would drag his pretty eyes away before Calum could submerge himself in the blue depths.

He moved on to touch. Innocent brushes of the hand, a hand on Luke's shoulder. Whatever he could do without making him uncomfortable on accident.

Unfortunately, Luke still hadn't really returned much affection back. This was his last attempt. If it failed...he didn't know what he was gonna do. Just continue longing for this boy from afar?

"Hey, Luke," He says to his crush, smiling.

"H-hi?" Luke doesn't know why Calum is even speaking to a loser like him, honestly.

"Do you want to come to this party on Friday? I don't want to be alone there, and having you by my side would make it way more fun."

"M-me? Um, I don't know...you don't want someone like me there, um-"

"Luke. I want you to come. You," Calum says seriously.

"Okay," Luke smiles, heart thumping only a little faster than normal.

The party wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. Calum held his hands and danced with him and made him laugh and-

He made him feel alive, exhilarated.

They continued to flirt until one day, Calum suggested they skip their boring last period history class. They managed to escape into the library. Calum glanced around, saw no one was there, and promptly shoved Luke against a bookshelf to kiss him softly.

They began dating shortly after. Luke was very gone for Calum, and Calum was so gone for Luke.

The two of them had fun together, stealing kisses and dancing in Luke's bedroom in the quiet midnight, just giggling at their little jokes like the rest of the world didn't matter. They were happy.

Luke still firmly believes it was the happiest he'd ever been.

They broke up, parted ways before senior year ended. They knew it would be for the best. After all, why make something long term when life hadn't even truly begun for them?

They never reconnected. It was Luke's biggest regret in life.

If he'd just talked to Calum like he almost did so many times, where would they be? Sometimes he'd be on Facebook and see him, see him so happy...

And Luke knew if he inserted himself into Calum's life he'd ruin all that happiness.

But was this better? Was it better to see both of them in pain because he didn't have the guts to say anything before Kirstin?

Luke doesn't know what the right choice is anymore.

Maybe if he disappeared, he and Calum could just move on...

Maybe that's the right choice.
