A/N: Hi guys! This is a horsey story so there will be a lot of equestrian lingo later on. Sorry for this chapter being so short.  Please read and leave comments! Constructive criticism appreciated :) Oh and thanks to Nano0811 for telling me to get a move on.

Eva Barret woke up suddenly with a gasp. Lightning flashed outside while rain trickled down the panes of a window in a cosy room.

"Where the hell am I?!" she murmured, before realising that she was at her new boarding school in the Scottish highlands.

Eva had arrived earlier that evening, after a long drive north from her home in Birmingham. She had been to a variety of schools, never fully fitting in a clique. Well, apart from the horsey ones, but they were few and far between in schools populated by city girls. Eva, however, was a country girl at heart and spent many happy holidays on her aunt's riding school in Cumbria. It was because of her aunt that she was at Dornoch School for Girls. She had suggested it, as it was an equestrian boarding school, and had a excellent reputation for churning out Europe's top riders. Following some investigating, and begging on Eva's part, her parents decided to let her compete at events in the Midlands, and Eva eventually qualified for entry into Dornoch's prestigious junior eventing program, aka JEP.

"What...?" groaned someone from the other side of the room. Ah. Her roommate. Eva checked her alarm clock on her bedside table. 2:16am. In a few hours, Eva's first lesson of the day would be starting. Another bolt of lightning illuminated the room. She sighed, and dove back under the covers.
