Today was the day. I had finally gathered up the courage to leave this hellhole. After thirteen years of living like this, with no father and a drunkard of a mother who was never there for me, I knew I was more than ready. As I stuffed what little belongings I had into my backpack, I looked around my room. "Well," I thought. "This is it."

I took one last look around my former home before turning towards the door. And then, I ran. This was the start of a new life for me, a chance to live independently.

You guessed it.

I was running away.

And I wasn't turning back.
