I raked my fork through the lumpy mashed potatoes and poked at the greasy burnt hamburger.

"Well its safe to say school lunch is even worse this year than it was last year." I said wrinkling my nose up at the food. I decided to save myself from being sick and just eating the only safe thing I bought with my lunch, a bag of potato chips from the vending machine.

"Yeah it also has a new ordor that resembles spoiled fish which is strange because I dont think you got any fish." Laughed Julia as she opened  her brown paper bag. She was smart to pack a lunch, I'd definitely be doing that from now on.

"You'd think since I've been at this school for 3 years now I'd know not to buy my lunch." I said shaking my head. Julia shrugged.

"Its okay to be an optimist, just not for school lunch." Elliot laughed. I rolled my eyes.

"After summer break you forget how crappy lunch is but now you know so don't make that mistake again." Elliot said biting into his sandwhich. I nodded in agreement as I sipped my water.

"So on a happier note...who's pumped to be back in school!?" Brain asked eagerly. Everyone gave him strange looks as if he was on drugs.

"Why would anyone ever be excited to be back in this prison?" Julia commented sarcastically. I snorted at her comparison of high school to prison, it was a little extreme but funny none the less.

"I happen to love back to school season. Getting to battle mom's over school supplies during back to school shopping just makes my year! People act like it's war, honestly your child will survive if they get a green notebook instead of blue!" Elliot ranted. I was cracking up.

"Elliot remember freshman year when you had to come to school with a black eye because two mom's were arguing over pencils and one accidentally elbowed you in the eye." I said trying not to laugh at the memory. Elliot rolled his eyes.

"Yeah that was just great!" He replied sarcastically.

"You guys need to look at the positives of this year, we're upperclassmen now which means our lockers are actually in decent locations!" Brain gushed. We all couldn't help but agree, the last two years were pretty rough trying to get to our lockers when they were isolated from all the other classes.

"Yeah that's true but that's the only good thing about being at school again. Can we all just take a second to realize I have Mr. B for AP English this year." I said watching all of their faces convert to horror expressions.

"Oh no! Thats awful." Julia said with big eyes, she genuinely looked afraid for me.

Mr. B was a teacher with a bad rep for being super tough. He talked really fast during presentations and gave hours worth of homework every night. His grading was relentless and kids actually feared him. I wasn't that great of an English student and only took AP so I could have Mrs. Myers since her class is supposedly super chill. Sadly my plan back fired and I got the toughest teacher in our whole highschool.

"I'll pray for you." Brain said as he stuffed about 5 chips in his mouth.

"Thanks I'll need it! We already had to write one 5 page essay over the summer that was due today before 1st period and I'm pretty sure I'm about to start off the year with a F because of it. I had to leave it in his mailbox in the office, what if he never got it?" I said dragging my fork through the now cold food.

"Awe that sucks a lot, I'm sure he did. What was it on?" Julia asked. I sighed.

"I had to write an essay on what english means to me but we had to implement all these different writing techniques like syntax and identify dictation. It was really hard and I dont know if I did it right. Plus he says it'll be graded before our class because he plans to grade during his lunch/ free period." I explained.
