Chapter 1

There was an feel of sadness and despair in the building as she scanned her thumb for entry. There was small beep and the doors swung open, closing as soon as she entered. She checked her watch; ten minutes, not bad. It was only around twelve minutes ago she had recieved the code red call from the head of the National Spy Agency. There was no usual nod of greeting from the security guard or the usual friendly wave from the admin officer. There was nothing; as Electra made her way to the lift she passed two ex spies in tears. This was a worry. Spies were meant to be unbreakable and were taught to practically never show emotion. As she pressed the level 26 button in the lift Electra came to the conclusion that something very bad had happened.

The lift travelled upwards quickly without any interuptions from other floors which was very unusual. If Electra wasn't a spy she would have started to panic by now but as she was a spy she only had a slight warm feeling on the back of her neck which substituted for the panic. When the lift doors slid open on the twenty sixth floor Electra calmly exited and wrapped her knuckle on the door of the most important person in America, if not the world. An eye of a security guard appeared at the peep hole and after seeing that it was Electra stood back and opened the door.

"Miss Brown," His deep voice greeted her as he stepped aside for her to get past. Electra gave him a brief smile which was not returned and then stood up straight and waited to be addressed by Mr Stanley. The head of the NSA. He had his hands clasped together on the desk, his pale face look drained and the bags under his eyes seemed worse than usual, accompanied by the lines in his forehead he looked terrible. Electra's stomach started to fill with butterflies but with one swift thought she crushed them and that also killed the warm feeling on her neck.

"Miss Brown it is with great regret and sadness that we called you here today," He paused and studied the young spies expression for a second before continuing " we can only thank you for getting here so promptly and proffessionally,"

Electra nodded in response to this and Mr Stanley was taken aback by how little this spy spoke.

"I feel that as the head of the National Spy Agency, it is my reponsibility to inform you about your father,"

Electra's brain froze up and she started to get all hot but her facial expression didn't change.

"Your father has been killed. We don't know how. We don't know why. We are looking into it,"

Electra nodded and turned around to leave. She started to run, not taking the lift, just sprinting down the stairs two at a time. She needed to be outside.

When the fresh air hit her lungs she feel down on the floor and screamed. The only person in her world was gone.

The only person.
