Chapter One: Salvation
“It wasn’t supposed to be like this, none of it ever was.” Looking around I could see the world laid to
waste. Homes where crushed, windows shattered, the whole town in front of me was desecrated.
Any hope of trying to survive now was a long shot to hell. My Name…I can’t even say. I don’t know
who I am or where I came from or even where I’m. Since the war everything was ruined…everything. Now what’s left of it people fight over anything that managed to survive. Food, water, and any kind of other resources. It’s as if they were animals claiming or protecting territory. If you are lucky you could find some towns in whole, untouched but it was rare and most were protected from the outsiders, few might even let some pass threw. The whole world was reduced to a third world country. Ruins of buildings lie beneath your feet, just stepping or traveling was dangerous when the earth covered what was left of skyscrapers, houses and even old mines from the war. One moment your walking on dirt the next your falling threw the window of a fallen building. Traveling by day was harsh the sunlight was strong and the temperatures rose quickly in some areas, it was safer at night but only for a short time before they started to plumet again.
She sat on a pile of rubble by what was mostly left of a building staring out into daybreak. She felt lost and small; even foreign to this world, she had nothing, nothing but a silver necklace she wore around her neck. It was carved intricately into a heart shaped pendant reading Salvation. Now the cold wind whipped against her face shivering she stood up, it was time to walk on to the nearest town, this is all she did now traveling day by day resting wherever she could, scavenging for water and shelter, maybe if she was lucky enough she could find some food but if not she stuck with the dried meats she had, which were now mealy tasting.
She grabbed the one bag she had left, filled with a small canteen of water, some clothes and a blanket. She moved on looking into a passing glass window she could she herself, a small girl with a black pixie cut her bangs extending slightly normal than what she was used to, framing her heart shaped face and eyes the color of molten gold. She had a slender build. Graceful and Delicate, She looked as if she was about 17 maybe a little older sporting grey shorts with tattered black pantyhose, worn combat boots and a tank top. It was all covered up by a double breasted pea coat. She looked so innocent and fragile; that it sickened her in a way, to be living in such a world now and not look as if the war had touched you was…was a bit outrageous from other people’s standpoint nowadays.
The town bustled around as the workers went on about their lives, Marshton wasn't affected by the war and tragedy like the rest of the towns were, tucked away in a deep valley from the rest of the world it sat quietly, but that wasn't that case after the war was over , tanks full of men and generals rolled into the peaceful valley and immediately took over forcing the citizens to either abide their wishes or move on and most reluctantly agreed not wanting to lose the only place they've known as home. What was once a rich farming town was now turned into a military checkpoint and research facility
“Flick! Flick man where’s those papers I’ve been asking you for over an hour come on now get your shit together!” a groggy man said as he rustled threw a stack of papers and made some notes. Leaning back he looked out the window nearby, the war hadn’t hit his town as badly as some other places. It was somewhat easier to make a living where he was, but then again this wasn’t much to call living when every move you made was being watched. It was hard enough to even breathe, and yet everyone was on strict ruling hell you couldn’t even have a child these days without filing paperwork for it, and that’s where he came in.
Mika Kael filed sorted and sent out paper work that the citizens of his district area filled out and turned in anything from food requests to housing loans and establishments and even time to time the very few that, yes even wanted to try for a child.
He sighed turning back to his desk and shouted again at the disgruntled assistant he had, wondering why he kept him around but then again he was practically family to him they went through a lot during the war together. So much so that he didn’t have the heart to let him go now, so he endured his selfish and procrastinating friend, he may be bit a bit air-headed sometimes but company is company.
