I laid on the couch that night in a big ol' t-shirt and pajama shorts, staring up at the ceiling. I wanted to sleep. I would've given anything for sleep. I hadn't slept a full night in weeks. But I just couldn't. My mind wouldn't shut down, and soon was working overtime. Before I knew it, there were tears streaming down my cheeks and I was bawlin' like a baby.
"Adalyn?" a tired voice asked. I quickly looked in the direction of the voice and saw Soda. He quickly flicked on the light and sat next to me on the couch. "You doin' alright, honey? What's the matter?" he asked, worried. I sat up so he would have more room.
"I-I miss my mama." I sniffle sheepishly. I was embarrassed to admit it. I was almost 17. I shouldn't need my mama, especially since she kicked me out. I thought he would laaugh at me, but instead, he hugged me real tight.
"I know it's hard, but we'll be real good to ya here. You're part of our family now. We gotta take care of ya like you were our own flesh and blood." he mumbled into my hair.
"You don't even know me." I whispered.
"But I will. And I'm starting to. And I love ya already." he stated firmly, still holding me tight. I smiled a little.
"Thanks, Soda." I sniffled.
"Get some sleep, Addy. You need it." he said, nodding as he stood.

I woke up to the smell of eggs and pancakes. Drowsily, I sat up and rubbed my sleepy eyes. Ponyboy walked in, carrying his schoolbooks.
"Morning, Adalyn." he greeted me, nodding.
"Hi." I replied quietly. He smiled and went into the kitchen.
"Adalyn!" Darry called from the kitchen.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Come get something to eat." he said.
"You gotta eat something." he said, standing in the doorway to the living room. I shook my head and laid back down.
"Let her be, Darry." Soda said, going into the kitchen. Darry sighed and followed.

It had been a few hours since the boys had left, leaving me alone in the house. I had been curled up on the couch, watching Mickey on the tv. Eventually, I dragged myself into the bathroom to shower. After tugging on my jeans and my Minnie Mouse shirt, then tying a bandana in my hair, I decided to get out of the house and go on a walk. I tugged on my sneakers and left the house, then set out on my walk.
It must've been an hour or two before I sat down on a curb, lost. A red mustang pulled up next to me and a couple of socs got out.
"Hey, doll, whatcha doin out here on your lonesome?" one of them smirked. I looked up and glared at them.
"Not gonna talk, baby doll?" the other asked, grabbing my arm and yanking me up. I grit my teeth and clenched my fists. The taller one smacked my ass and I gave a yelp of surprise, then swung, hitting him in the jaw.
"You bitch." he spat, about to grab me.
"Hey," a deep voice yelled behind me, "hands off my broad!" they boomed, and I heard the ring of a switch blade being opened. I recognized the voice, but couldn't figure out who it was. The two socs quickly let go and got back into their car as a strong pair of arms wrapped around my waist, causing me to jump. I looked up and saw Two-Bit glaring at the car as it drove away, then he broke into a grin.
