I woke up, breathing heavily. I had a nightmare. Of what, I don't know. I can't remember what it was about, but it left a haunting feeling behind, one that felt as though I was surrounded by a bone crushing pressure so strong I couldn't breath. Like I was drowning in darkness.
I felt so empty and sad inside. I don't know what's worse, having a nightmare and remembering it, or having a nightmare without the memory of it. Only having the haunting feeling to tell you of it's presence.
I had to clear my mind so I walked outside the Diner. It was still dark so no one was awake. I noticed a ladder on the side of the Diner and decided to climb it. When I got to the top of the roof, I sat down.
The sky was beautiful and littered with thousands of bright stars stretching for miles over the earth. The sight was breath taking.
I couldn't believe that there was such beauty in a world so messed up. This helped me to clear up my head. I was no longer focused on the feeling of my nightmare, all I could focus on was the desert sky.
Then I heard I voice say from behind me, "Couldn't sleep?" I turned to see Poison standing there. I didn't even hear him climb up. "Yeah" I replied softly. "Me neither." He said as he walked towards me and sat down next to me.
"I come up here too when I can't sleep or if something bothers me or just to think." Poison said. I simply nodded.
We sat in silence for awhile before he spoke up again. "It's beautiful isn't it?" He asked. "Yeah, it's amazing." I said. "Really makes you think." He stared at me before saying, "What does it make you think about?" "The world and how it's so messed up, but yet we still manage to find beauty in it and still get to enjoy the little moments in live much like this one. It's so calm and peaceful, it's hard to believe there's all this chaos going on out there and how we can die at any moment." I said.
"Wow, that's a lot of thinking you've been doing. But you're right, it is hard to believe and it's important to find these little moments and cherish them." He said while staring out over the dessert.
We stayed silent for awhile. Then Poison spoke up. "So why couldn't you sleep?" I thought for a moment. "I had a nightmare." I said, trying to remember it but failing. "What was it about?" He asked, sounding a little concerned. "That's the thing, I don't remember." I replied. "I think I was drowning in my dream, that's what it felt like."
"Well, I just want you to know I'm here if you ever need someone to talk to." He said kindly with a small smile. "Thanks." I said returning the smile.
I think I might like it here more than I thought I would.
