The noises grew louder every passing second. The roar of the engines rolling and cranking like chains hoisting machinery. Then the smell of burning oil burned my nose. I was scared of what was coming. It had to be a Griever. Not even knowing what it was, just by it's haunting sounds and smell I didn't even want to know what we were in store for.
I turned to Thomas. He could see the fear in my eyes as I could see the same. He smiled at me softly and opened his arms. I gladly walked in them and wrapped my arm around his waist. I felt safe in his arms. He'd make sure nothing would harm me by how tight he held me against him.
We parted away when Alby moan in pain. I kneel down on the grouns and searched for a pulse. He's heart was still beating but not much. Please make it Alby... I didn't want him to die even though he can be a bit cranky but I could see why. He was the leader. Everyone depended on him.
The frightening sounds of the Grievers grew closer by the second, echoing off the stone walls of the Maze. I noticed bright flashes of light coming from a far, it blinking in the night sky. I really didn't want to see what was coming for us.
" Thomas we have to do something!" I said panicking.
Thomas was silent for a few minute before trying to pick Alby up but failed. I then tried helping Thomas to lift him up but was only able to move him a little ways before setting him down. We just propped him once more in a sitting position against the wall.
Thomas leaned back against the wall already panting. Alby was too heavy for us to pick him up. Everyone in the Maze was sort of muscular in a few ways except for me and Thomas of course. We had to find a solution and fast.
Barely being able to see I looked at every angle to come up with a plan. We had to have some way to make sure Ably would be safe from the Grievers and somehow also keep us safe. I remember pulling on the ivy on the wall and remembering how thick they were. I wasn't for sure if the vines would actually hold us but it was worth a shot.
I walked over to the wall and grabbed two vines for each hand. Pulling them back I made sure if they were connected to the wall. Check. Then I wrapped the vine around my wrist and tugged on it even harder. Still stood in place. I smiled. This may after all work. Let's just hope Grievers don't climb walls.
Thomas watched me and did the same. He grabbed a vine and pulled on it. His first vine snapped but the other one held. We backed up to the other wall and lifted our feet from the ground. Our bodies swung forward back to the other wall. The vines still held.
Quickly, we grabbed other vines and tested them. The weaker ones ripped and fell to the ground while the stronger ones stayed intact to the wall. Finally having several strong vines for us, we dragged Alby to them.
A horrible sound of metal cracking stung out ears. We were so caught up on the whole vine thing that we totally forgot about the danger coming toward us. Thomas looked down the corridor, probably hoping that they weren't going to be here soon.
The sounds were getting closer and the sky brightened up ever so slightly. They were coming and faster than before. I had to push aside the fear and got to work. I tied one of the rope vines around Alby's left arm while Thomas wrapped a vine around his other. We hoped that the vines at least went half way up since we weren't able to see that far up. After several wraps, we tied the vines off. Then took the another vines and put it around Alby's legs, tying each one tightly.
Now it was our turn. We snatched ourselves some vines and tied them around our arms to hold us up. We climbed up just above Alby put our feet in some cracks in the wall that were able to also give us support.
