“This is my parents’ house,” Christian said, pulling into the driveway. Colette looked around at the farm. There were barns, silos, a chicken coup, cows in a pasture, and a seemingly never ending field of corn, dancing in the wind. It was the quintessential little American farm.

“This the place, huh?” Colette asked.

Christian nodded, taking his car key out of the ignition. “Yup. This is the place.”

“Well, get a move on, Chris,” Colette told him, poking his side. “Introduce me to your family.”

“Well, that’s easier said than done, Colette,” Christian said as he opened the car door on the passenger side for her. “It’s a farm, and they all work in separate places doing separate jobs.”

“Let’s go find them,” Colette suggested. “It’ll be like a treasure hunt.”

Christian shook his head and smiled, “That’s why I love you, Colette. You make everything fun.”

They ran through the fields, hand in hand, screaming names.

“DAD!” Christian screamed. “DAD!”

A man with tanned skin and muscular arms from decades of working on the farm looked up. “Christian!” he boomed, grinning.

“Hey, Dad,” Christian said, hugging his dad.

“Who’s this beautiful girl here?” his father asked, gesturing to Colette, who blushed slightly.

“This is my girlfriend, Colette,” Christian introduced the two.

“I’m pleased to meet you, Colette,” Christian’s father said, shaking her hand. He turned to Christian, “I’m sure your brothers are around somewhere, Chris. I know for sure that your mother is inside, making dinner.”

“Thanks, Dad.”

They ran out of the field and into the cow pasture, screaming, “JAS-SON!”, the name of Christian’s brother, the next oldest after Christian, who was the firstborn.

A boy who looked to be about seventeen or so to Colette looked up after a while, finally hearing their calls. He spotted Christian and grinned.

“What’re you staring at?” Christian asked his brother jokingly. “Come and hug me, you goofy bastard!”

Jason hugged Christian, messing up his older brother's hair. Colette shook her head at the two.

(boys.)

“What's it like in the city? Are you all high and mighty now?” Jason asked, pulling away from Christian's brotherly embrace.

Christian laughed and shook his head, “Nah. I'm just same old me.”

Jason looked from his brother to his brother’s girlfriend, obviously entranced by her simple beauty.

“Who’s this?” Jason asked, gesturing to Colette.

“I’m Colette, Christian’s girlfriend,”  Colette introduced herself.

Jason smiled and looked from his brother to his brother’s girlfriend. “Christian and Colette. Isn’t that cute.”

“Yes, it is,” Christian interrupted, noticing the gleam in his brother’s eyes. If he wasn’t careful, Jason would steal Colette from him, and he couldn’t bear that. “We're very cute. Jason, would you happen to know where Patrick is?”

“Feeding the pigs, I think,” Jason answered, scratching the back of his neck.

“Great,” Christian said, “thanks.”
