January 9th, 2017, Midday, Phoenix Drop Elementary
It had been a fairly normal day. Mrs. Smith's class played jeopardy. Mrs. Matilda's class took a test. Mr. Keller announced a field trip next month. The Lunch Bell was due to ring at any moment, and kids were already packing up. No one could predict what terror was slowly encroaching towards the school as they continued their normal daily routines.
The speakers turned on, but instead of being asked to stand for the pledge, the students and teachers were tuned into the cracking breaths and cries of the Vice-Principal. In a moment, a wave of pure terror and captivity rippled across the class.
"Teachers a-and Students, p-please r-remain calm. This is not a Lock down D-drill, I r-repeat, this is not a Lock down Drill. There's a shooter i-in the main office looking for the student Mel-"
A Gunshot rang through the speakers and the halls, making the students cover their ears. The Vice-Principal did not remain speaking. It was very evident she had been shot. If she was alive, However, was unknown. Melody's heart was racing and she was frozen in her seat. The lights has gone out, as if the power in the building was cut off.
"Mel-od-y." The gruff, taunting voice of none of than Jackson, Melody's Father, rang over the speakers, chopping her name as if to properly pronounce it.
Melody's blood went cold, as well as the room surrounding her. Her face was as pale as the snow outside and her hands shook. Her eyes widened in terror and she wanted to shrink in her seat, but her body refused to budge an inch. Every head in the class turned to her, all with the same look plastered on their faces, "Who is he?" They silently asked her. She dampened her lips, as they became dry, and parted them to speak, but immediately shut them as Jackson's voice filled the room once more.
"Melody, why don't you be a good girl and come out? You're just like your mother. You wouldn't want to be responsible for the death of anyone, especially not your friend." He chuckled darkly.
Melody closed her eyes and shook her head. My Friend? She thought. They were all in the class with her, Kyle, Alexis and-
Melody's heart sunk.
Levin.
Levin was who he had. His name had barely escaped her lips when she heard his struggling through the speakers, as if restrained tightly.
"Melody don't come! Let go of me!"
There was a sickening series of crunches and snaps, with a sharp cry of pain from Levin. You could easily guess they broke something to get him to stay quiet.
"NO!" Melody stood up immediately. As if to answer her, Jackson replied.
"You want him alive, don't you? You have five minutes before I shoot him. Tick Tock."
The Speaker shut off. Five minutes?! It's a seven minute quick paced walk to this class from the office with all those hallways! Melody had to make a choice, and fast. If she stayed, Levin would die and it'd be her fault. If she left and turned herself in, there was a chance of both of them dying, or she died in his stead, or perhaps he would ship her away to die of starvation on a deserted island. There was too much at risk. Melody summoned all the courage in her small, weak little body and stood up. Alexis tried to stop her.
"Melody don't! He'll kill you!"
"It's better me than Levin! There's a chance he won't kill anyone else if I go! So I'm going!" She said firmly.
Before anyone else, even Mr. Keller, could stop her, she sprinted out of the classroom and made a mad dash through the halls. She turned dangerously around corners, sometimes hitting lockers but continuing on. She had no idea if she was even going the right way. A few teachers attempted to grab her, but she was too fast for most of them. Most. One managed to grab her Uniform Jacket but she quickly undid the only button and kept running for Levin's sake.
Don't kill Levin don't kill Levin don't kill Levin! Melody repeatedly, silently pleaded this. One wrong turn, and it could cost Levin his life. Melody's heart pounded against her chest and she felt tears gathering in her eyes. I'm coming Levin! Hang on!
Time was running short. She had a little less than a minute and she had no idea how close she was to the office. She closed her eyes, remembering how Levin showed her the route and she gasped. She had taken another wrong turn and classroom 206 when the teacher grabbed her. She ran back, turning left this time, booking it down the hall until she skidded into the front office, making the deadline of 5 minutes, thirteen seconds away from Levin's death.
Upon entering the scene, Melody had to hold back a shriek of horror. Levin was a crippled pile on the floor, unconscious. His right arm had been broken severely, as it was limp as a noodle. Vice-Principal Isabelle sat in the front desk chair, blood gushing from her head onto the floor, soaking her brown hair and the gray carpet. She was indeed dead. Jackson stood with a timer and a hand gun pointed to shoot at Levin's heart. He grinned maliciously and stopped the timer, but not moving his hand from the trigger.
"I-I'm h-here, y-you c-can't hurt him!" Melody glared at Jackson, even though she was terrified of him.
Without another second's hesitation, she knelt by Levin holding his upper body, careful not to disturb is injured arm. She hugged him gently and a tear escaped her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Levin...Y-you're going to be okay now..."
"Not quite."
Melody looked up. "W-what do you mean? Y-you said-"
"I said I wouldn't kill him, but both of you are coming with me." Jackson wore an insanely wide grin.
Two men, who Melody had never seen before, tore her away from Levin.
"No! Let me go! Levin!" She screamed and kicked, wanting to go back to him, tears flowing from her eyes.
Not long after, one of the men hit Melody with the butt of their gun, knocking her out cold. She was limp in the arms of her captors, unable to fight back. She didn't know if they were going to die, be tortured, or simply remain captives until someone came to save them. She had a feeling that Zane would be unable to be this someone.
