The rain falling outside the cracked window ricocheted off of plants and sidewalks, giving in to potholes and creating puddles. Clouds hung over the sky like a dark secret, hiding the truth about the sun. The walls of the room were fluorescent white, and boasted of bands and movies. The lights were out, and the door was open, letting the light of the hallway break into the darkness.
Shey stared out at the rain, lost in her own little world. Her fingers danced on the frets of her ukulele, her lips moving, but not making a sound. She spent most of her time huddled in some corner trying to create something worth sharing, or sitting in her bed, thinking, trying to find purpose. Was there such a thing?
People claimed their creations and ideas, calling the items their purpose, or plan for this life. Just an excuse for power. Power is the only thing everyone truly has in common. Our lust to be better than everyone else because of our own insecurities. What about fear? Fear was a setback, when you were scared that someone else would be in charge of you, and you wouldn't have a say in anything.
Shey brought herself back from the desert of her mind, ending the drought of despair.
What's the point? What's my purpose? Do I even have a reason to stay here?
Shey shook off her thoughts, stood up, and turned on her stereo. Music helped distract her head and bring it back to reality. She used it as a life source. The tally marks on her wrist proved as much. She couldn't afford to think like this anymore, not after what happened last time...
