Chapter 15: A Couple of Interesting Pair & A Mad Plan
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the things which you think you cannot do." -Eleanor Roosevelt.
The clock at the end of the hallway rang seven and there I was waiting for Matthew downstairs alone. So much for being on time. My eyes laid closed as I hoped that tonight would go by quickly. I wasn't in the mood, let alone to spend time with Matthew. Dad had given me a stern lecture beforehand to remind me on how I should present myself in front of guest and keep my attitude in check.
There was footsteps coming from upstairs. I let my eyes open to see Cecilia beside Matthew, who was shamfully looking really good right now. He came down the stairs wearing his black jeans, a white button up collar shirt that was covered by a black jacket. Matthew only smiled at her and then glanced over in my direction, his eyes widen slightly. He came over and murmured in my ear, "You look beautiful."
What I had on was a forest green lace figure fitted dress, giving it a vintage glamour look. The back was cutout, with a button secured on the top part to hold it in place. I held myself in place and eyed him carefully. Did he expect me to giggle or blush at his comment? Did he expect me to fall head over heels with him because he chose this outfit for me? Idiot
"Thanks I guess," I said heading to the door.
Matthew turned around and excused himself from CC who pouted at him. We walked over to the car where I expected Fox the driver, to wait for us. What I didn't expect was Matthew clicking the car and entering the driver's seat. I stood there for a few second till I entered the car and sat next to him. "Where's Mr. Fox?"
He started the car with a push of a button and pulled out of the driveway, "in the house."
"Then why are you driving." I asked bothered as he turned the corner.
"I can driver if you weren't aware." He told me annoyed and quickly looked back over to the road.
"I know. I just prefer not to be alone with you," I mumbled under my breath. "So, is there anything I should be aware of before we go on this date. "
I looked over at him as he kept on driving. "Not really you just need to be by my side, and talk with his fiancé."
"So what are you guys going to discuss about? Are you planning to work together on a future project? I bet he's just having this dinner date to test the water. My dad used to always do this before he'd even decided if he was interested or not....I'd go with him, for the company, but he always let me listen in, although they'd be bothered by my presents. Dad didn't seem to mind it, and would brush off their comments about not having his daughter take part in their business. You know I think he wanted me to learn the tatics of each meeting, maybe so that I could use them when I start to negotiate for him in South America. Anyways, If you need any help I'll be happy to-"
"No, I don't need your help."
Matthew continued to looked forward as he drove on. I stared at him for a while until I turned back to rest my head against the window. What an ass! I was only offering to help out. I wanted to drown out the silence with some music. When I lend over to turn on the radio, I received a glare from Matthew. It startled me for a second as I pulled back. The only other time I've seen a glare like that was when I was with Shane. I tried to shrug it off as we parked in front of a white restaurant. Note to self, don't touch his car.
I was about to get out myself, when the passenger door opened, and Matthew appeared smiling down at me with his hand stretched out waiting for my own. If he expected me to take it, he'd be quite stupid, but as I was about ready to push him away, his name was called out. We both looked over to see a couple coming closer in our direction.
