Hidden in the Dark
It was exactly early in the morning, and my eyes shot awake as I heard footsteps outside my room door. I lived alone. Grabbing my gun, from its spot underneath my pillow, I slowly crept towards my door. With one hand, I cracked it open, and after a minute I swung the door open with a loud BANG. The gun aimed towards the dark figure standing in the middle of the kitchen in one smooth, practiced motion.
"Who is it?" The words came out clear and confident, as they should. The intruder raised his hands slowly, making no sounds. Keeping my gun aimed directly at his face, I inched towards the light switch and hurriedly flicked it on. An audible gasp escaped my lips, and I almost dropped my gun. Hayden, my best friend of 4 years, was standing in the middle of my kitchen, his cheek scratched, his shirt ripped, and his knees stained with blood.
"Ethan!" His voice cracked, but he still held a soft smile. I ran into his arms, my face pressed against his chest, a small smile on my face, "I missed you," he said, his chest making a deep rumble that I would never forget.
"I missed you too." The words came out muffled against broad chest.
"What happened?" I asked, after a moment, once we broke apart.
Max looked down, his green eyes meeting the floor, and his hands clenching into tight fists. He probably needed some space, and time to think first. Not wanting to force anything out, I grabbed a towel out of the closet and handed it to him.
"You can tell me later, but first, you need to get cleaned up."
He visibly relaxed after my comment, and nodded, padding towards the bathroom without a second thoughts. So while he was taking a shower, I took a quick trip down to the local 24 hour Walmart nearby, and got some clean clothes and other necessities that he might need. By the time I came back, he was laying on the couch, towel wrapped loosely around his hips, hair still wet from the shower. Oh boy, was that a sight for sore eyes, i'd almost forgotten how sexy he was. Realizing I was staring, thank god his eyes were closed, I turned away, gathered my thoughts, and looked backed at him.
"Here are some clothes," I said tossing the Walmart bag at him, as I searched for wounds on his body. Nothing seemed to be hurt, besides a bruised side, and some light scratches along his chest.
"Thanks, Ethan." He smiled at me, and did my legs feel weak. It's really hard to remind oneself that your crush isn't interested all the time when their your best friend. But hey, I loved the guy, and I didn't really think he needed to know about my crush right now.
"Go change now. I'll make some legit food, I doubt you've eaten anything besides granola bars in days" I smiled back, and began pulling out ingredients to make some chicken and pasta.
"Hey! To be fair, I eat healthy granola bars!" He yelled, making his way to the bedroom to change. I took out a pan and got to cooking, all while smiling, and letting my mind wander. Max had seen something horrendous, but it was still too early for him to tell me,.
That was okay, for now.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Hayden came out of the bedroom wearing the some grey sweatpants, and a tight fitted black shirt, which totally made him look hotter. I definitely picked that on purpose.
"So how did you find me?" I questioned separating the chicken onto two plates in front of me.
"You were extremely hard to find, man," he shrugs resting his elbow on my shoulder as he talked "I had to pull in a lot of favors from the ring."
OH MY CHEESE NIBLETS, he smelled so good, wearing my body wash. Hell, I didn't even know someone could make a body wash smell even better but he somehow managed to take my coconut scented body wash and make it DIVINE. Would someone like to hit me up with how you do that??
"Oh, well I mean that's kind of the point of undercover work, but how's everything back there?"
"Leon, and Ada are doing fine, just a little worried about you, but Halley cried a whole day after you left" Hayden ruffled my hair and started talking about how Halley's training was doing, and her intense partying. "I swear she gets crazier every time we go! Last time I went with her, she somehow got a swimsuit and was dancing on tables, and worse, she turned to trying to tackle people in heels!"
At that last comment, I started laughing "sounds just like her, also the food is ready." I handed him his plate and sat down at my small kitchen table. I was pretty damn tired, hadn't gone to bed until 12 training, but at the moment, Hayden was more important then sleep, well, just this once he was.
Once I had finally managed to snap out of my daze I noticed him staring at me. Maybe I was staring off into space for too long? No point in asking, but there was something I wanted to know.
Not wanting to be left in the dark, I asked "so what really happened to have you stumble into my flat, at like 4 in the morning?"
