Lightning flashed its furious light over twelve stone pillars, rising high into the sky. Rain smacked on to the rocks slick surfaces, threatening to knock them over. Caves dotted these pillars, where wolves desperately tried to dry out thier flooding dens. In one of these caves were two wolves, a silver wolf and a gray wolf, keeping the water off of four bundles of fur in the back of the tunnel, surrounded by bracken.
"Oh, my pups!" Called the silver wolf. She sprinted to the bracken, where the small wolves had begun to howl.
"My fur's wet, mama!" Whined a black pup. He seemed to be the oldest and his eyes were already open, staring at his mother in shock.
"Mine too!" Called a tan female. She blinked her bright green eyes. "I wanna play with Lightningpup where it's dry!"
The silver wolf sighed. "Not untill the storm passes, Dustpup." She said sweetly.
"Mama, why is Lightningpup asleep?" Called a gray pup. He sat by a lump of whit fur, nuzzling it gently.
"Her eyes still haven't opened?" Asked the gray wolf at the mouth of the cave.
"Oh, ScratchClaw!" Cried the silver wolf. "What if she died?"
ScratchClaw sighed. "She didn't die, GlassShard." He said calmly, "but she was the runt."
"Mama?" Asked the gray pup, "Will lightningpup be okay?"
"I don't know, smokepaw." GlassShard replied softly.
"I don't want to be here!" Cried the black pup.
"It's okay, Coalpup." Said GlassShard anxiously. She looked ScratchClaw sadly.
"I think it's time to let her go." He said quietly. GlassShard wailed. Her cries mixed with the sound of rain and thunder from outside, completing her sorrow.
"My baby!" She cried. But, she picked up Lightningpup by the scruff and began to walk to the mouth of the tunnel.
"Mama, no!! We wanna stay with Lightningpup!" Cried Dustpup, Coalpup, and Smokepup.
GlassShard silently wept as she drew nearer to ScratchClaw. Quietly, she dropped Lightningpup into the river of rainfall.

The rain continues to pour as Rose walked the small path of the border. Her gray paws splashed the murky puddles, and her gray and white back was soaked, but she continued to walk. Being stuck in a cave during a storm was not Rose's idea of fun.
Suddenly, there was a wail. It sounded like a pup. Rose bolted along towards the source of the sound, keeping pace with a small stream from out of the territory. The wailing grew louder as Rose charged closer and closer. Soon, a small white bundle came into sight, wailing pitifully as it drifted down the river of rainwater.
"Oh, the poor thing!" Called Rose. She bolted next to the stream and scooped the small bundle onto the ground. It quivered and sobbed. Rose gently picked up the small pup by the scruff and carried it to her den. "It's okay, little one." She cooed, "My little Willow."
