"Your'e new aren't you?" You look to your left at Tim. A ninth grader with a giant smirk across his face, his bright teeth shine over you, almost shadowing you. You don't respond, you just look at the substitute teacher and pretend to be listening. From the corner of your eye you can see Tim turn his head back around to face his friends. "Don't even try Tim, the new kid won't talk to any of us, we don't even know his name" Tim pauses for a moment, trying to absorb what has just been said. The sound of scribbling on paper slowly fills up the atmosphere. There's a blank page in front of you. The clock ticks and ticks, annoying you until you realise the time, the period is almost over. You look through your pockets for a pen, you don't have a pen. You unzip your bag searching for a pen, there's no pen. Your bag is empty, you didn't pack your bag. Tim gazes over at you, he's not wearing his smirk anymore, you assume it's because he doesn't have a pen either. The only thing you seem to have in common with any one in the room. "Miss I need to go to the bathroom" You hear a familiar voice call out. The scribbling stops, everyones eyes gaze towards the centre of the classroom. Everyones eyes except for yours. You put your head down and try to block out the rest of the world. You hear someones chair screech as it slides  backwards. You can feel the presence of the class, it's annoying you. You want to get out. A hand grabs onto your shoulder, and a person bends down to whisper into your ear. "It's alright bro, I got you" his hand motions for you to stand up. The student makes eye contact with you and winks, he proceeds to walk out of the classroom. You understand what is going on, you make a gesture to the substitute teacher, and you follow Tim out of the classroom. Great first day of school, you forgot to bring a pen, you accomplished nothing, but it looks like you might have made a friend. That's good, there's a first time for everything.
