CHAPTER 1

The outbreak was terrible, almost every one was infected with the guy wrenching disease that was on the loose. If you weren't already a zombie, then you were bitten and waiting to turn or trying to make a last struggle to end your life before you turned into one of the monsters that were now hungry for pony flesh.

Although, that wasn't the case for Twilight Sparkle. Somehow, she had managed to not be mauled or savaged by these creatures of death. Twilight sat in her library in tears, not knowing what to do. Spike stumbled into the room almost spilling the bowl of salad he had in his hands everywhere.

"Twi, this is the last of the food." he said with a shake in his voice "we have to leave soon or we'll starve to death."

"To be quite honest Spike, I'd rather starve to death than become one of those... things," Twilight sighed.

"If were sneaky enough then maybe we can escape to Rarity's or Fluttershy's and see if they're still surviving."

"Spike, that could be really dangerous you know." Twilight said nervously.

"Twi, I know that. But if we don't then we'll die here"

"I guess but we don't need to worry about any of that yet, now could I have some of that salad please?"

Spike walked over to the scruffy lavender pony and handed her the bowl. Twilight took it and picked at it for a bit.

"It's got a little bit dry, Spike did you not put ice around it like I told you to?"

"I did, but the ice melted. What did you expect it to do? Stay solid?"

Twilight giggled

"Well, obviously not."

Suddenly a hoof pounded through the window. Twilight jolted and spilt the salad all over the floor, Spike squealed and bolted into the kitchen.

"SPIKE!" Twilight cried in distress.

Not knowing what to do, she instinctively galloped over to her shelves full of books. She scanned over the books looking for anything at all to do with blocking up windows. Spike ran back through to the room with planks of wood, nails and a large hammer.

"Twilight some help please!" Spike whimpered.

Twilight spun around to see the weak dragon trying to carry everything over to the window. She trotted over and attempted to activate her magic.
Nothing happened.
Twilight was astonished, she tried again and again.

"Spike... my magic isn't working!"

"Just use your normal strength then!" The little purple dragon said with puffed out cheeks and gritted teeth.

Twilight took the hammer and nails off of Spike. She took it over to the window and stared in horror at the monster that was on the other side of the glass, she was frozen to the spot. A tear ran down her face as she saw the orange fur and ruined blonde hair. She looked at the tatted brown hat hanging off of the monsters ear. The pony turned a little to the side, moaning and growling. Twilight caught a glimpse of mauled creatures cutie mark.

"Apple Jack..."

Streams of tears ran down Twilights cheeks.

"TWILIGHT, SNAP OUT OF IT!" Spike screamed as the zombie started to climb in. "YOU HAVE TO KILL IT!"

"Spike I... I can't... that's Apple Jack! Our friend!"

"Twilight! Apple Jack is no longer in there anymore, she's gone. It's just a monster now! If you don't kill it, I will!"

Twilight breathed and closed her eyes, her face stung from the amount of tears that had passed down her face. She lifted and hammer and drove it hard into the ponies skull, she hit and swung at the zombie until a body sprawled across the carpet layer motionless in a pool of thick, red blood.

"C'mon Twi, we need to do this as quick as we can. If we don't, more will turn up and climb in."

Spike turned to the window and held up a board diagonally across the opening. Twilight then reached up and hammered the nails securely into the wall. After at least 2 hours of sweaty hard work, they had miraculously been able to cover all the windows in the library.

Twilight sat curled up in a ball, traumatised by what she had done earlier. She had savaged her friend to death. She kept thinking about it. More and more, longer and longer. The more she thought about it, the sicker she felt. It ended up getting so bad she had to rush to the toilet and throw up in it.

Spike walked over to Twilight and offered her a blanket and a sip out of the last bottle of water they had left. Twilight took the water and the cosy blanket and smiled"

"Thanks Spike, you really do take care of me you know."

She smiled again gently at the dragon with stained cheeks and red eyes, she pulled the blanket over her and settled back. She then gestured for spike to come and cuddle up to her.

"Are you sure?" Spike asked nervously.

"Yes of course, besides, we should be getting some rest if were going to be walking all the way to Fluttershy's tomorrow"

Spike smiled and climbed into twilights lap, he curled himself up and let out a little sigh"

"What an absolute nightmare this is."

"I know spike, I know."

After a short brief conversation about their plans the next day, they fell asleep in mid conversation, snuggled into eachother. Nice and warm without having to worry about anything getting inside.
