Sebastian stood in the shadows of the trees as I entered the clearing, Damien behind me. Sebastian was shirtless, wearing only a pair of loose jeans, showing off every bit of muscle he had on his torso and arms. I'd be lying if I didn't say that he was very fit and sexy, but the fact that he killed my parents and took my place as leader destroyed any bit of desire I could have had.
"Sebastian."
He smirked, "Didn't think you'd show up."
"Why wouldn't I?"
"Cause you'll lose."
"I don't think so."
"You know, your mother was very stubborn. Always thought she was going to get out alive."
I heard Damien growl behind me, Sebastian laughed.
" Oh that's right, you liked that human slut too didn't you?"
I felt the air around distort as Damien changed into a matte black wolf, ready to tear Sebastian limb from limb. I stood between the two, Sebastian smiling wickedly.
" Damien, don't. This will only work if I kill him."
Damien's wolf looked at me with his emerald green eyes, debating if he should listen to me or fill his mouth with Sebastian's flesh.
"Please, Damien."
He stopped growling, but didn't change back. Probably because he'd be naked when he changed back, oh well, I couldn't worry about that now. I turned back to Sebastian, he looked disappointed that Damien didn't attack, after all that would mean that the challenge couldn't take place.
"Damn. I was looking forward to a blood bath."
"What ever. Let's start shall we?"
The moon was high in the sky, beams of silver light danced through the trees and in to the clearing. I felt strange. Powerful perhaps? Sebastian shook his head, "Not until it's midnight exactly."
I was going ask how we would know, it wasn't like I was wearing a watch. But then, a silver mist began to rise up from the hard earth, it surrounded us, blocking Sebastian from view. There was nothing but silence, until a growl escaped the mist. I couldn't tell wear it was coming from. Not until a black wolf with dirty white paws jumped out of no where, pinning me to the ground. The mist filled my lungs, I couldn't breath, I was choking as Sebastian snapped at my neck. I held my arms up as he sunk his teeth in to my flesh, forcing a painful scream from my mouth. I rolled on to my side, pushing him off my body as he took a chunk of my forearm with him. I forced myself onto all fours as Sebastian chewed on my flesh, a hungry look filled his eyes. The silver mist continued to rise from the ground, the moon a silver disc hanging high up in the sky shone down on us. The mist closed on me again, hiding Sebastian from my sight. I took the chance and changed in to my grey wolf, suddenly able to fill my lungs with oxygen. I gently moved through the mist, something was covering Sebastian's scent, I couldn't track him nor his movements. I directed my attention to my ears, but I could hear nothing. I started to think that my senses were useless when I say the mist move in the corner of my eye, then again in front of me. He was moving too fast, the mist twisted with his every action. Sebastian was circling me, waiting for the right time to pounce. I followed the mists movement with my eyes, not moving my body. The mist stopped moving at my right hind leg, I bared my teeth, 'got you'.
I ran to the left as Sebastian jumped out of the mist, I took advantage of his confusion and clamped my jaws on the back of his neck. His filthy blood filled my mouth as he yelped in pain, jumping around, trying to get me to let go, but I held on. Sebastian jumped up and landed on his back, forcing me to let go of his flesh. His matte black coat was wet with his blood, he turned and snarled at me as I jumped back onto my paws. I didn't react, I simply looked at him, obviously not giving him what he wanted. He knew he couldn't win. That he had loss and I wasn't going to kill him.
His eyes flicked behind me, he bared his teeth once more and ran past me, towards the edge of the clearing. Towards Damien. I ran after him, pushing myself the hardest I ever have, trying to stop Sebastian before he killed the only Connection I had to my parents. I remembered there was a fallen tree where I had left Damien, I climbed the tree, trying to look out for Damien and Sebastian.
Damien was still a wolf, grey hairs sprinkled his muzzle. He stood there, his vision not assisting him in any way. I saw the mist twist five meters from Damien, I jumped off the tree and pushed Damien out of Sebastian's path, I turned in time to see Sebastian pounce, his mouth open, hunger filling his eyes. He tackled me and sunk his teeth in to my shoulder, I cried out as blood soaked my grey fur. I snapped at his head, unable to catch any bit of his flesh with my teeth. Pain surged through my shoulder as Sebastian dug his teeth deeper in to my flesh, my strength left my body. This was it. I was finally going to see my parents. I felt my eyes close, after a moment Sebastian let go, dropping my body on the hard earth. His howl of triumph forced my eyes open, his throat defenceless. With the last bit of energy I had, I wrapped my jaw around his throat, cutting off his howl. I tore his windpipe out with my teeth, he fell tot he ground, his body limp as I spat out his disgusting flesh. I gave a short howl before I was dragged into darkness.
.......
I woke up, again not in my own bed or in my own room. I slid my body upwards as pain from my forearm and shoulder surged through my body, they were wrapped in white bandages. I looked around, the room was painted cream, with very little furnishings. I was dressed in a black satin night gown. I got out of the bed, pain still surging through me, I walked, well more like shuffled, to the door and pushed it open. The corridor was white with painted pictures on the walls, the floor boards were polished and shone in the artificial light. I shuffled down the corridor towards a set of stairs, where I heard voices coming from the level below. I slowly stepped down the stairs, stopping at the bottom two.
"You can't make her wait." It was Damien's voice. What was he talking about? Make me wait for what?
"She's not ready." That was a surprise. It was Will's voice.
"She challenged and killed Sebastian. She won back the pack."
"Exactly she killed him. You can't have a pack master who decides to kill who ever defies them."
I stumbled around the corner, wanting to out my two cents in.
"I didn't just kill him. I gave him a chance to walk away. He didn't take it."
"How long were you-"
I cut Will off, "Long enough to know that you think I'm a mindless killer."
"I never said-"
"Shut up!" I screamed, I went light headed and lost my balance. Damien was by my side, holding me up right. I slowed my breathing, "I am the pack leader. It's in my blood."
Will held his hand out, "Angeline, come back to the shop."
I shook my head, "I don't belong in a cage. I belong here. With my pack."
I transferred my weight to the wall, "Damien, please escort Mr Devonshire out."
Will's eyes filled with hurt as I said his surname. He followed Damien out of the room before stopping, "If you need me, you know where to find me."
"I don't need you. Or the other hunters."
All emotion left his face as he left the house.
