The streets were steaming from the recent rains. The hard ground was hot to the touch of her bare feet as Esther danced down the empty side street near her cousin's home.
As a child she had danced these streets with out a care or run with the goats back to her home at the corner. Her cousin Mordecai had often scolded her for the carefree way she travelled. She rarely remembered her head scarf until it was too late and men had seen her, tonight it was no different. The fine cotton scarf hung from her shoulders loosely dangling down her back as she twisted and leaped and twirled through the mists.
Hooves thundered down the streets to her left and Esther quickly came to a stop. Pulling her headscarf up around her face and hair she took off at a sprint toward her uncle's home barely 20 yards away.
