Kalel's POV
I wake up the next morning, curled up in a warm blanket in one one of the corners of the large room.
I rub my eyes and put on my glasses.
Seeing that everyone is still asleep, I tiptoe over to the farthest wall, where no one sleeps.
Located on the wall is a single air vent, bolted on with industrial-strength screws; impossible to remove.
The vent's cover already has a few small dents in it from my previous attempts at breaking it open, but I don't mind.
I pull Anthony's Swiss Army knife out of my sweatshirt pocket and whip out the blade attachment.
I begin to quietly file away at one of the bars when I hear a 'beep' come from just above the vent.
Startled, I jump backwards.
I see a small red dot on the wall; a camera.
"Good try, Miss Cullen," a robotic, monotone voice says out of nowhere. "But you are never getting out."
The red light turns off and the dot on the wall disappears.
I suddenly hear some rustling noises coming from behind me.
I turn around to see Ian sitting up in his makeshift bed, looking at me with a slight look of confusion plastered on his face.
"W-what was that?" he asks drowsily. "What were you doing over there?"
I sigh, knowing that there is no way to evade his questions.
"That was a camera/intercom thing," I say. "They're monitoring us, making sure we don't escape."
"I don't even understand why they dragged us here in the first place," Ian says. "What do they want from us?"
I shake my head and shrug.
"I honestly don't know."
Jenna's POV
I hear muffled voices coming from somewhere near me.
I sit up, thinking that I would see my bedroom, but instead I see the large stone room.
The voices suddenly become clearer.
Kalel and Ian.
"Well I'm gonna go back to sleep," Kalel says, standing up. "Bye."
"Bye," Ian says quietly, looking down at the pillow next to him sadly.
I clumsily roll out from under my blanket and walk over to him.
"Hey," I say, sitting down. "What's wrong?"
He looks up at me, his blue eyes wide in a state of somewhat-surprise.
"Huh?" he says hesitantly. "Oh, nothing..."
I nudge him in the shoulder.
"Come on," I say. "You can tell me."
He lets out a heavy sigh.
"I just," he begins to say. "I just miss her."
Ian wipes a stray tear from his face as I give him a concerned look.
"Who?" I ask, immediately regretting my decision. I cover my mouth with my hand. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry you don't have to answer, I'm sorry I-"
"Melanie," he replies quietly. "My girlfriend. When they took me away, she tried to stop them and-"
He pauses for a moment.
"They shot her," he says, now in tears. "They killed her right in front of me, those sick bastards."
Ian buries his head into his knees, so that only his bowl-shaped light brown hair is visible.
I can tell that he's crying.
I give him a qukck hug, trying not to make things awkward.
"I'm so sorry," I say. "I didn't know..."
He looks up at me, his face red.
"I-it's okay," he says sniffling. "I-I'm fine now."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure." he says.
"Uh, okay," I reply, feeling sorry for him.
"Thanks for talking to me, Jenna," he adds.
I smile.
"No problem."
Ian's POV
I look back down at my knees as Jenna walks away, back to her small living area.
I want to say "don't leave," but I manage to resist the urge.
She's the only one here who's ever asked me about Melanie, the only one who actually talked to me, besides Anthony and occasionally Kalel.
For a while, I thought that barely anyone here liked me.
I think I've finally found someone who does.
I might just like her, too.
