Strange Things
A few years ago, when I was about 12, I was walking with my friends Setsuko (meaning ice), Kineta (meaning energy), and Armina (meaning warrior). Setsuko was trying to calm everyone down. Setsuko was the calm one of us all. She loved to draw ice castles and her favorite season is winter. She is the most fun person to be around and she is always getting us out of trouble.
“Kineta, why are you always so energetic? Can’t you just sit still for a second?” Setsuko was trying to draw Kineta in an ice throne but Kineta wouldn’t stay still enough for her to get a good look at her.
Armina was in karate and jujitsu. She was getting ready for a practice next week and she almost kicked me. Of course, I was lost in thought so I guess it is partly my fault but still, she should watch it.
“Control your self Armina,” I said. “You almost hit me!”
“Sorry.” Armina said.
I was lost in thought after that. How had I not been hit? How did that pencil fly off my desk today?
Earlier that day, I was in English and all of a sudden, my pencil went flying off my desk. I got in trouble because it had hit Kineta in the arm and she had to go to the nurse’s office because it had started gushing blood.
The principal didn’t believe me when I said that I didn’t touch the pencil at all.
All of a sudden, I walked right into a stop sign. The only thing is, I didn’t feel it. I just continued walking straight and when I looked up, my friends were staring at me.
“What?” I said.
My friends just continued to stare.
“What did I do?” I continued asking.
I waved my hand in front of them and all of a sudden it was if nothing had happened. They just continued walking and talking just like before.
As we neared my street, Elm Street, I said goodbye to my friends and was surprised to see that they didn’t notice me.
“Bye,” I continued to say, but no reply.
I finally decided to just go home.
What had happened back there?
When I opened my garage, I was surprised to find my mom home. She almost never came home till 6:30 and it was only 4:23.
“Huhh, I wonder why she’s home so early.”
When I came in the door, I found my mom crying at the kitchen table.
“Wakanda, I think it’s time you knew.” She started to say.
“Know about what?”
She looked like she was going to cry again. What did she want to tell me?
“Wakanda,” she turned to look at me, “You’re a dragon caller.”
