Babies and Genders

It was a rainy morning. Maine is still on her 7th month, her belly geting bigger, her legs are swollen but she has the glow of a happy wife. Alden never left her side, not once. He was there when it was getting difficult for Maine to breathe while laying down so they had to sleep sitting down, head on the frame of the head. He made sure that even in the most ugly sides of pregnancy, Maine was comfortable. She was his priority. He was there when Maine has cravings, and not just cravings, late in the nigh cravings. There were times when he had to go out in the middle of his sleep just to buy something for his wife, and it never bothered him. Maine's happiness is equal to RJ's happiness, that's the only equation he knows.

RJ had a mall show last night, he got home by 3am but needed to get up by 6am since its time or their monthly check-up. He was a little groggy, but he could have some sleep after the check.

"Babe, una na 'ko sa car ha?" the husband said.

Maine is still getting ready and putting on some light make-up.

"Sige love, baba na lang ako after."

"Bilisan mo ha, baka malate-tayo. You know how Dr. Cullen hates it when we're late"

Maine nodded and Den moved his way to the car. He was going down the stairs when he snapped back and headed to their room once again.

"Oh? Bat ka bumalik? I thought punta ka na sa car?"

"Naalala ko kasing napaclumsy ng misis ko, baka madulas sa hagdan, nako di ko alam gagawin ko"

Maine stopped and stared at him.

"Coming from you talaga na clumsy ako?"

"Better safe than sorry. Lika na. Wag na maarte"

And so he did. He guided Maine while going down the stairs. Opened doors for her, helping her carry their baby in a way.

They were just on time when they arrived at the Doctor's office. It wa the same doctor that gave birth to RJ. So he was a trusted one.

It was the time for ultrasound, so Maine lifted up her shirt. Doctor added the cold blue gel to his belly. And showed them their baby.

RJ was holding Maine's hand during this times. He can't help but cry seeing that little angel inside the love of his life's belly. It was a beatiful scene. It was a sight of a family, starting to grow and live.

He kissed Maine's hand a couple of times before wiping his tears.

"So, you sure you don't wanna know the gender of the baby?" Dr. Cullen asked.

It was a couple of weeks ago when they talked about this. Its been a deal that knowing their baby's gender should be on the day of his/her both. They don't want the element of surprise to be ruined.

"No po, pagkapanganak na lang po ni Maine"

"Hmm, okay if that's what you want"

"Alam niyo na po ba doc?" Maine asked.

"Uh-huh" the doctor nodded. The curiousity was killing her.

"Pero, di pa naman tayo sure na sure, diba love?" She said. Heading her gaze to her husband.

"Huh? We talked about this already ano ka ba," alden's eyes furrowed.

"Yes doc, we don't want to know and thats final na po"

The couple went to Bulacan after the check-up. It was the Mendoza's family day.

Alden asked if he could take a nap, because he's been sleepy as hell, while Maine went to her old room, shared by her sister, Coleen.

Maine was just walking back and forth, obviously annoyed by something.

"Huy babae, anong problema mo ba?"

"Eh kasi, gusto ko na malaman yung gender ni baby. But RJ is insisting na pagpakapangak na"

"Eh kasi diba that's what you talked about? Ano ka ba, babaita ka talaga?"

"Eh kasi, I suddenly want to know"

Coleen thought of something, she took a white thread, just the right length and asked for Maine's wedding ring.

"Bes, ganto. Alam ko ganito yung traditional way eh. I will just make tutok of this to ur belly tapos if it rocks in a circular motion, girl then kapag back and forth, boy okay?"

Maine nodded excitedly. She plans on keeping this a secret from his husband. What he don't know wouldn't hurt naman.

She layed down and allowed Coleen to point the ring an the thread to her belly.

Soon, it rocked in a circular motion.

"Girl?" Teary maine asked.

"Its a girl!!!!" Excited maine screamed as tears of joy flowed from her eyes.

"Nay, tay!!!!" Coleen screamed. Instantly summoning their parents to their room.

"Anong nangyayari?" Tatay Teddy asked.

"I'm having a girl"

The room filled with gasps.

"Sure na ba yan, meng?" Nanay Mary Ann asked.

Everyone was happy, and excited. Crying happy tears.

"Oo nay, look. It rocked circular eh"

Everyone was now paying attention to the thread and ring. Until, it moved back and fort.

"Akala ko ba girl?" Maine asked.

"Kanina, circular eh" coleen answered.

"Ano nagpasex change yung anak ko sa loob?!"

"I guess its not accurate, hehe. Peace" coleen answered, immediately running out of the room.

Disappointed Maine, it is. I guess she just have to wait.
