The music pumped through the speakers causing my ears to hurt slightly at the noise but with the buzz of the drink I ignored it. It was my birthday anyway.

"Lexi!" she called and came into view with a smile on her face. Her perfectly styled black waves framed her face perfectly.

I smiled at her, "yeah Vanessa?"

"What do you think of the party then? I know it's with soda and not alcohol but how is it?" Vanessa asked with a grin showing off her sparkly white teeth where as I was stuck with braces.

I nodded my head, "it's great, thank you."

Vanessa nodded her head, "glad you like it. Mom wants you to have a great birthday she's with Jason's parents at the moment by the punch."

Jason was my sisters long-term boyfriend, they were together since the beginning of freshman year and now at university. My face fell slightly, even on my birthday it was about Vanessa, I shrugged, "that's fine." I answered lightly. I love my sister, I really do it's just everything always seems to be going back to her.

I saw my mom come through the crowd of my friends with my dad, my mom looked straight towards Vanessa and hugged her. I felt myself frown slightly while my dad just touched my shoulder and gave me a reassuring smile.

"Lexi, you should be studying to get into a good university," my mother said.

I looked at her with wide eyes, "it's my birthday," I said slowly.

"Vanessa worked hard. She didn't have time for parties and now look at my daughter," my mom said proudly.

I dropped the drink onto the cream carpet causing my mother to stop talking about Vanessa and look at me shocked.

"The carpet is cream!" she said shocked.

I glared at her slightly, "it's my birthday mom! Can you at least even acknowledge that?"

My sister sighed and went to say something but my mom beat her to it, "go to your bedroom right now. You are so ungrateful." My mother spat.

I felt tears sting my eyes before I stormed pass my dad and my friends and then headed up to my room and slammed my door. I felt the tears roll down my cheeks and furiously wiped them away.

"Lexi?" a voice asked quietly, I grumbled something in response and blinked opened my eyes. At the beginning my vision was blurry but then it cleared and I saw my mother sitting on a chair while my younger brother was stood next to her. A woman was looking down at me, she wore a white coat so I guessed she was a doctor.

"Yeah?" I mumbled softly and rubbed my eyes.

The woman smiled, "good you're awake. How are you feeling?" she asked.

"Fine," I answered and sat up in the hospital bed and winced slightly at a shooting pain from my stomach, "what day is it?" I asked looking around feeling my neck ache.

"Tuesday, you have been coming in and out for a while," she replied.

I nodded my head slowly before frowning, "wait where's Nathan? Is he okay? Oh my gosh," I started saying quickly.

The doctor frowned, "Nathan, your boyfriend who came in with you? He got discharged honey," the doctor replied and gave me a small smile before looking at my mother and brother, "sorry but I'm going to have to ask you two to leave. Visiting hours are over."
