Why Should I Cry?
By Hannah Paige
Why should I cry?
Family, taken away by forces of this earth and
Its people or by the unmerciful Death
Leaving by their will or someone else’s
Friends, grown apart, becoming older and
Supposedly wiser, all the while losing more
Then they gain.
The troubles of the world,
Crimes, cruelty to animals, storms,
Wildfire, war, accidents, child abuse and more
As common as an ant.
Economy swirling the drain
Crushed dreams becoming reality, and everyday.
Problems with money, none to spare.
Apartment, not a house
No Christmas this year,
Overdue bills in the mail.
Food Stamps and shelters too high in demand.
Why should I cry?
There are countless reasons,
All increasing everyday
Worries mounting, Pressures building
But this I have to say:
I have known a lot of these problems
And I haven’t shed a tear.
Despite the fear it will get worse,
I carry my head high.
But for those that know how I feel,
Its for them I shed some tears.
