Death was not pleasant. Hopeless hadn't expected it to be. It was endless pain, more than he had felt when he was alive. So, when that pain ended he felt unlike he had in centuries. Was it just a new phase of death? Did he no longer deserve excrutiating pain?
Each time he had attempted to open his eyes something had prevented it. A force pressed against them and he was left in the darkness, in pain, all alone. This time was different. They opened and for the first time in forever he saw blurred colour.
A blonde woman dressed in a robe stood over him. Her eyes were alit with mischief. She ran a hand over the air, feeling his life force. Who she was eluded Hopeless. She became clearer as time went on.
Delirious laughter was all his ears heard once they began to function. After years of nothing that laughter was painful. All he wanted was for it to cease. It hurt.
Mutters from his mouth were hardly heard by the blonde lady. Although most of his body was working, Hopeless failed to create words.
After laying there for quite a while he managed to sit up. His new body was red and sticky. That was just blood. Much of it was dried but much of it was fresh. The blonde lady turned around, still cackling.
Now confusion was evident. Hopeless was utterly confused. He wiggled his toes and flexed his shoulders. He was ready. Ready to fight. Ready to live. Ready to be himself again.
A variety of knives were laid on a tray beside him. One of them was sticky, red. His blood.
What Hopeless did next wasn't expected by the blonde woman. Her resurrection had thieved away her energy. Her eyes drooped and her reactions were slow. Hopeless had a chance.
Out of nowhere he seized a knife and flung it at her. She barely saw it coming however deflected it with her arm.
Knives flew at her and each time she deflected one she grew weaker. By the last one she no longer had the strength to keep fighting. It plunged into the side of her throat.
Every part of his body pulsed as he ran to the door, his body new and odd. It was unlocked. Hopeless sprinted up stairs to a rather dark house.
Not taking in his surroundings, Hopeless ran from the house.
