Chapter twenty-five

Groaning inwardly I halted my steps.

"Why, Dexter, why now?" I called out knowing he could hear me. I waited for a second but heard no response, so I shrugged and continued on.

I got about three more steps before an over-whelming sense of dizziness over took me and I fell over. I caught myself and searched around with curious eyes. I thought I was a vampire now and things like that wouldn't happen.

A burst of excruciating pain shot through me and I fell over, curling into a ball on my side. I began to feel helpless and then I blacked out from the pain.

• • • •

I was in a meadow again. There was no snow this time, only dark gray clouds that hung ominously in the air. I frowned, I knew that I was dreaming or something of the sort. I remembered that I had blacked out and drew my arms around myself.

"Sorry, I had to make you come to me." An apologetic voice sounded from behind me. I turned around only to have my gaze met with blue green eyes. I snarled at him.

"Don't give me that look." He rolled his eyes, slinging an arm around my shoulder. I shrugged away from him and shot him a glare.

"Couldn't have just waited for me to go to sleep?" I countered. He just grinned at me.

"I missed you." He replied, his tone laced with sarcasm. I shook my head and finally came to the realization that he was half naked.

His body was perfectly toned, ad covered with pale skin. But something caught my eye as I looked him over, subtly. There was elegant black writing that swept across his collar bone. I tilted my head as I tried to decipher it.

"Servo permaneo bovis provestri." He muttered, looking down at himself. My head stayed tilted the foreign words confusing me.

"What's it mean?" I whispered, stepping closer and brushing a finger over the alien words, absentmindedly.

"'Save the last bullet for yourself.' It's latin. My dad always used to say that to me." I felt him shiver beneath my touch and I pulled away. My eyes met with his again and a new question formed on my lips.

"Why?"

"Why what? Why get it tattooed or why did my dad say it?" He matched my curious look. I shrugged.

"Either or.."

"Well, he would say that to me because we were a Latin family and it was a famous quote. I always lived by it, although we all had our own ideas about what it meant. I always thought it was something along the lines of; When bringing death remember that you'll have to die too. You know? Save the last bullet for yourself..?" He raised his eyebrows in a hopeful manner. I laughed curtly.

"I guess I understand. But, you didn't bring me here to talk about your tattoo.." I trailed off as I tore my eyes away from his body and scanned my surroundings. I was almost 100 percent sure that it was the same meadow as before.

"Actually, I really just wanted your company..and you seemed like you needed a break from that world." He scratched the back of his neck in a sheepish manner. Anger flared within me for a moment before I began to feel empathy for him.

"I guess it must suck to wander about with no one to talk to." I sighed out. I moved to a fallen tree and sat on the edge of it. It was big enough that I was able to swing my legs absently. Dexter followed and sat beside me.

"It's not like I can't go to the demon world." He informed me. I rolled my eyes.

"It doesn't seem like you want to, though." I commented, leaning against him.
