Lauren stared at the wall impatiently, waiting for the teacher to finally dismiss them. She hastily tapped her foot against the leg of the table while she stole glances at the clock, which hung on the wall, every two seconds. The lesson just wouldn't end and she couldn't wait to finally get home. It was only the third week of the new school year and she was already more than sick of it."Calm down, you're making me go insane" her best friend Dinah, who was sitting next to her, hissed. Her blonde mane covered almost her entire face and her head was resting on the table. She had huge bags under her eyes and she was visibly exhausted, struggling to keep her eyes open.
Lauren softly squeezed her hand, which was her silent way of apologizing. The brown haired girl knew, that she probably shouldn't mess with Dinah right know so she tried to follow whatever the teacher was talking about, yet her thoughts drifted away after a few seconds. She was concerned about Dinah. The younger girl had been miserable for weeks now. Her ex-girlfriend had cheated on her with another girl. When Dinah had found out, she immediately called it quits. When Lauren found out about what happened, she instantly went over to Dinah's place and let her cry in her arms for hours.
Seeing her best friend in this state of mind, was horrible to witness and Lauren hated Emily for breaking Dinahs heart. The green eyed girl wanted to confront her and ask her what her fucking problem was, but she knew that the blonde haired girl wouldn't want her to get involved in this.
The sound of the bell immediately tore Lauren out of her thoughts and she quickly put her books into her bag. Dinah was half asleep on the table so the brown haired girl gently squeezed her arm in order to wake her up. But she didn't even react.
"Dinah, get up!" she said while softly shaking her shoulder. The younger girl groaned before opening her eyes. Lauren grabbed her hands and dragged her out of the classroom.
The green- eyed girl stopped in front of her locker to grab her jacket and a few of her folders when an idea crossed her mind.
"Wanna go, get some ice cream?" she asked, in hopes of cheering her friend up, yet Dinah only shrugged while fumbling around with sleeves of her oversized, grey hoodie. Lauren took that as a yes, closed her locker and took Dinahs hand before leading the girl to her car.
The car ride was silent with the exception of the music, which was blasting at an almost deafening volume. It only took them about ten minutes until they arrived at their favorite ice cream parlor, which was next to a park.
Once they each got their ice cream cones, they decided to sit down on a bench in the park, under a giant tree, next to a small fountain, surrounded by even more trees and flowers.
They sat in silence for a while until Dinah spoke up. "Thank you."
"For what?", Lauren asked, moving her body, and sitting cross legged on the bench so that she was facing the other girl.
"Everything. I know I've been so annoying for the past few weeks but I guess being in love just really messed me up. Thank you for taking care of me ", she said, while fiddling with her fingers, which was a nervous habit of hers.
As a response, Lauren wrapped her arms around the younger girl and just held her for a few minutes while the other girl was trembling, trying to hold back her tears.
"If I could take the pain away I would, you know. Sadly I can't do that, but I promise to be by your side and even though it sounds stupid and so cliché, you truly deserve better." Lauren replied, rubbing circles on Dinah's back. It truly pained her to see her best friend in this state.
After they'd finished eating their food, they decided to pay Ally a visit. The older girl always managed to cheer everyone up and Dinah was in need of some genuine laughter. The three of them had been inseparable for years now and they knew exactly how to comfort each other.
All of this had happened almost two years ago and Lauren still remembered it as if it was yesterday. Their lives were completely different now. It all happened before everything went downhill with the green eyed girl. Before her world broke into a thousand pieces. Yet one part of her life hadn't changed. She was still as close to Dinah and Ally as before. Even when everything else changed, the two of them were a constant part of her life. And she was more than thankful about that. She didn't know where she'd be without them.
They had just started college. Dinah and Ally shared a dorm and Lauren shared hers with a girl called Normani, who she shared the same classes with. They got along very well and even though they had only known each other for a few weeks, they were pretty close. Apparently they had lived in the same city for years without even knowing each other.
It was their first official day of college and Lauren was excited to finally be free. She felt free. She didn't have to hide anymore. High school had been hell and she was tired of just surviving day by day, she was ready to start living.
Normani had already left the dorm to meet up with some friends while Lauren changed into some comfortable clothes, while trying to make herself look presentable.
This was going to be a good day. She was determined to make it one.
She met up with Mani a few minutes before their class started and they eventually decided to get in as soon as possible, to get some decent seats. The room was already packed and they chose to sit somewhere in the front. Lauren began unpacking her stuff when a dark- haired girl took a seat next to her, completely out of breath.
"Ow crap" she muttered through her teeth, obviously upset.
"Are you okay?" the green eyed girl asked, turning her attention to the girl next to her.
"Yeah, I guess. I just forgot everything at my dorm, except for my water bottle." the brown eyed girl replied, while mentally face palming herself. Suddenly, the older girl handed her a piece of paper and one of her pencils and winked at her.
"You can have mine", she smiled at her.
"Thank you! I owe you something" the smaller girl said but got interrupted when their professor walked in.
This gave Lauren enough time to silently muster the girl next to her. She was overwhelmingly pretty, as far as she could tell. Her dark brown hair cascaded down her shoulders and her back, and she wore a grey hoodie along with tight black pants.
Damn it , she was staring. She shouldn't be staring.
