I'd Always loved the wind on my face. The shear power of such a force that only the Gods could hope to control astounded me. It had always fascinated me for as long as i could remember, just looking out of our little wooden cottage on a stormy night would fill me with excitement and passion of how such a mighty womder could exist in this land of ruin.
"Get away from the window Rylan !" my father would always shout at me, "You never know when a rock or branch will come flying through that thing with the power of that wind!". My father had always been a very worrisome man for as long as i can remember and had always tried to keep me and my sister under his arm at all times. I mean it wasn't as if I hated the idea of my father caring about me, it just got out of hand at times.
Our views in the world often clashed in our little home, as i was constantly wanting to go out hunting or adventuring with my father, he was always wanting to keep me in home and this often lead to many of the same arguments. "Rylan, come over here and help your sister if you have nothing better to do, she cant clean all those pots on here own now can she." My father said.
You see my sister could tent to be quite annoying at times... well maybe that isn't the right word.. Hopeless, that's right hopeless. With the way our father raised her she had often never been taught the most basic of things, only last week i had to tie her shoes and she is eleven! I mean i cant blame her exactly but there are just some things that should be absolute, like learning how to tie your shoes.
"Rylan!" my sister shouted while running towards me. "Father says you have to help me go outside and get some more firewood from the shed?"
"Why do i need to go with you?" I pondered?" "Hes not really wanting me to go just because he doesn't want you to be alone is he? your eleven now and he is still making me act like your second father or something." My sister looked down with sad eyes and said quietly "I'm sorry Rylan, he didn't really ask you, i just thought it would be fun, sorry."
That's when I really felt defeated, when I make my sister sad enough that she feels the needs to apologise to me when I'm the one being harsh, i just cant stand her looking that sad.
"Okay okay, I'll come with you but only if you don't lie again okay?" Her eyes lit up like the night sky and she said "Oh, okay! I'll be waiting outside so don't forget to put your big shoes, it's still boggy all over", I really am too soft on this little on aren't I?
Although we lived in a small village that did not mean we were all safe from danger, sure we had the wooden walls and large gate for protection but what help would that do if one of the hellish creatures from the wild decided that out small village looked like a tasty snack, i mean just that tales from some of the travelling merchants that stay at our village for a few nights at a time make me think that all our walls would succeed in doing if some beast got in would be to keep all of its prey locked up so that they couldn't escape.
