Third person pov
It has been four days already and everyone has not heard anything about their mayor. They all started to worry, especially his family.
That evening a letter arrived from Dingwall, stating that Fergus never did arrive. Eleanor became worried and held a council meeting.

Merida was out in the woods thinking and worrying about her father.
" it's all my fault Angus, if only I listened and choose anyone...then my father would of never left to that stupid travel!" Merida was at verge of tears but a animal whine caught her attention. She then realized it was a horse's whine, coming from the distance and decided to go after it, she steered Angus toward the direction of the whine.
As she got closer she heard hooves hitting the ground in despair. Once she got close she saw it was her father's Clydesdale! She quickly dismounted Angus and headed towards the horse.

"Woah! Calm down boy, I got you...don't worry." She calmed the horse as she placed a hand on its mane and got the reins untied from a tree branch. The horse then calmed down and neighed softly. Merida stroked the big Clydesdale mane. "There boy, there I got you.."
Merida smiled softly but then she put a face of worry seeing her dad not with his horse.

"Where's dad! Do you know boy? What happened? Can you show us the way!!??" Merida exclaimed. The horse looked the way he had come from as if understanding Merida's questions. Merida looked towards where the horse was pointing and decided to alert the town.
=====================
Eleanor was in the middle of the town giving a speech and calming the citizens. She just announced Fergus missing along with their children. Merida came rushing in with Angus and her dad's horse, Eleanor quickly recognized the horse as her husband's.

"Merida where did y-" Eleanor was caught off by Merida explaining everything and where she found him.

"Are you sure he pointed the way to your father?" Eleanor looked unconvinced that this animal could know where her dear husband and her sons where at.

"Trust me mom, animals instincts are better than humans...he can help us...........and what choice do we have...what if da is really out there..we are wasting time just standing here and doing nothing!" Merida reasoned with her mother, she always knew animals were intelligent species and she loved all kinds. She knew this horse was the key to where her father and brothers where at.

Eleanor nodded and went forward to the next plan and started to give orders to the council, "Very well then, tell the captain to please gather soldiers to-"

"No mother, I'm the one who's going to go! Alone." Merida took a step forward determined.

"Merida this not the time to say silly things!" Eleanor looked away trying to sign some paper for the captain. But Merida took away the paper and ripped it in have.

" I said I will go, and that's that!!" Merida looked straight at her mother's eye challenging her.

"Your crazy, like I'm actually going to let you go ! Especially alone! You will stay here and that's final!" Eleanor challenged back.

"No mother, all this is my fault, I'm the reason my dad and my wee brothers are missing! And as many times you have said I've come at age as an adult and I should take responsibility, then I'm showing here and now that I am taking matters seriously and doing my duty as the mayor's daughter and taking my own responsibility in my own hands. I'm looking out for my people because dad is part of this clan and I will protect anyone no matter who they are for I am the future of this town."

This time Eleanor looked at her daughter and was shocked at her daughter's word, she wanted to feel proud for her daughter starting to grow up and mature but the moment they were in, it didn't feel right. She kept looking at her daughter and saw what she admired about her daughter, her bravery and determination.
Eleanor sighed and said what she knew she might end up regretting, "Very well, but you better be careful and come back to me safe and sound..." Eleanor looked at Merida worried.

Merida hugged her mother and reassured her everything will be fine. "Don't worry, I'll be back with dad and the wee devils before you know it." Merida looked at her in the eye and nodded, and her mother nodded in response.
"I'll quickly get ready and leave, please tell them to get Angus ready and also my dad's horse.
"Yes dear, I'll also tell Maudie to prepare you something small." Eleanor started to take her leave but turn around and looked at her daughter briefly and then started walking away again, she didn't feel right for letting her daughter go but....she needed to have faith in her.
===========================
The next morning Merida left and she rode with Angus as her dad's horse leaded her to the place her father and brothers where at.
They arrived and Merida soon found herself in front of a gate leading to a big dark looking castle.

" what is this place?" Merida said as she looked up towards the big gates and the abandoned looking castle amazed, Angus just neighed in response, also shocked.
Angus soon had a bad feeling about this and started to get restless and panic and no sooner the other horse started doing the same.

"Guys please, stay,...steady!" Merida dismounted Angus and tried to calm down the two stress out horses. Once she had a good hold of them and manage to calm them down, she opened up the gates and she found her father's cape laying in the stone ground.
"Father!" She then quickly picked it up and looked up at the entrance of the castle. She started to walk towards it.

She wanted to knock but she saw that the castle looked abandoned for many years so she tried  to open it and to her surprise it did.
The door creaked opened as she push it further down.

In the other side two figures where watching closely who it was.

"Look a girl!" Said a hoarse voice
"Yes I can see it's a girl, you fool!" Responded a different voice.
"What if she is the one!" Responded the hoarse voice again.

Merida was half way inside, she popped her head through the door looking side to side and felt uncertain ......................

"Hello?......"
