"Wake up, it's 7 am and it's time to get up"

"Mmmh, no let me sleep, it's early"

"No! You'll be late! Come on, get out of bed"

"But I'm on vacation"

"Not anymore, come on Marta or you'll miss the train"

I got up right after my mom left my room. Today will be an important day and I'm kinda nervous. I went in the restroom and I looked at myself through the mirror, I took a deep breath and I washed my face. Then I opened the closet and I took comfortable clothes for the trip: yoga pants, my lucky t – shirt, hoodie and my converse.

Mom was waiting for me to eat breakfast together and with the special occasion she had woken up dad and my sister Victoria. Dad and Victoria don't usually wake up soon in the morning, and to be honest I don't either, but today it's another story.

"Here, answer it. It's your grandparents, they want to say hi before you leave"

"Oh my goodness, again?" I said yawning. "They called me yesterday...Hello?"

"Hi Marta!"

"Hey grandma!"

"Your grandpa and I wanted to wish you a good trip, everything will be fine"

"Thanks grandma, I hope they'll be kind with me"

"I'm sure they will be. Well, grandpa says hi. We love you"

"Thank you, I love you too

"Have a nice trip! Call us when you'll be there"

"I sure will. Bye" I hanged up the phone and I put it on the table, then I started to eat chocolate cookies while I was drinking italian coffee.

"Are you excited?" Victoria asked me.

"Just a little bit. It was worse when I left to go to America"

"I'm sure you'll be fine. Maybe you'll meet someone's famous!"

"Hahahah that's what you care!" I said laughing.

I went again in the bedroom to take the last things and I closed my suitcase. I checked everything again and I took my phone, my suitcase and I left the room.

Dad put the suitcase in the back of the car and we left for the train station.

"We love you Marta. Mom and I are very proud of you"

"Thanks dad, I'll miss you". I hugged my parents at the same time, then I was in front of my little sister.

"Be nice to them and don't hung out with your friends too much"

"Yeah, yeah sure" she said and I chuckled.

"Call us when you'll arrive" my mom said.

"Alright, now I better go I don't wanna miss my train. Bye, I'll see you soon!"

"Bye" they said at the same time.

I came up in the train and I found my seat. I saw the ticket inspector and I gave him my ticket.

The train started to move and I waved my parents from the window. I tried to put myself in a comfortable position, I had almost three hours to spend in that train. Surely I would fall asleep, it was just 9 am.

Anyway my name is Marta. I've turned 19 a couple of months ago and it's already been a year since I came home from the USA. I've studied one year abroad in Iowa as an Exchange Student and it was the best experience in my entire life so far. Thanks to that I grew up and I became more responsible. Now I can say I have a family and friends in the other part of the world and I miss them terribly.

I also have a summer house and I was there when in July I got an interesting phone call.

FLASHBACK

"Come on Anna, give me back my phone" I said laughing while I was trying to take my phone back.

"No! I want to see our stupid pictures"

"Anna, you have those pictures too" Eugenio said.

"Oh, someone's calling you...unknown number. Is it your secret admirer?" Anna asked me smiling.

I looked at her rolling my eyes.

"Hello?" I replied.

"Good morning Marta. I am your English teacher, is everything ok?"

"Good morning, yes everything's good"

"Good. I called you because the director of the hotel Excelsior in Venice called me asking me for someone I know that is able to go there and work for them. They need someone who can talk a really good English and of course I thought of you" she told me.

"Oh my Gosh, I – I don't know what to say" I said almost crying.

"It's ok, I understand this must be a shock. I'm sure you'll be great, they told me they need you in August for the Movie Festival"

"Oh my! Yes!" I said jumping around.

"They'll give you a room where you can stay and the food will be for free since you'll work there. They also want you to know you have to be there 24/7"

"Yes! Yes! Yes!"

"I'm glad you're excited. Please talk to your parents as soon as possible. I have to call the director tomorrow"

"Thank you so much! I will call you really soon! Thank you again!" I said while a tear was falling down in my cheek.

I hanged up the phone and I literally ran in the beach to find my parents. A job in a hotel was never my dream but I think it would be great to have a little bit of experience.

END OF FLASHBACK

I can't still believe it happened, I am so excited! I don't know what to expect though, will I be good enough? It is going to be hard to work there? What will I have to do?

While I was asking myself so many question the train was speeding up, moving far away from my home.

I took a deep breath and I thought "Bye Milan, Venice I'm coming".
