A Man Chooses

Quick Note: This will contain spoilers if you haven't played through the game! If you don't care about spoilers, carry on! All of the art in the book including the cover aren't mine

"Are you a man or a woman?"

I am a man.

"No, you are a girl."

I frown but nod.

"Will I teach you how to play? Or not?"

Play.

"You do not deserve it."

Fade.
I am facing a stretch of black and white land.

"Not that you will control nothing."

Control...

"You are wrong."

I walk forward towards the monochrome landscape, coming to two pits with red blocks at the bottom.

"Jump over that pit of barbs."

Barbs?

I walk up the edge and jump down.

"Disgusting."

I shatter.

I'm back at the start.

I jump over the pits and walk to a hill. At the top is a dim green vertical rectangle.

"Touch the statue. I will forgive you."

Statue?

No.

I pass by the green rectangle and down the hill. Particles shimmer behind me.

"How disappointing."

More particles around me as I walk to another green rectangle. I brush against it. It lights up. I flinch, but they neither praised nor admonished me.

I continue to a path leading above ground and one that continues under.

"Travel the lower path."

The lower path was filled with bright red dangerous blocks. The upper path was clear and safe.

Up.

"Ugly Creature."

More and more particles.

I continue, not touching the next green rectangle and avoiding the red blocks. I hop over the red wall, but my foot catches the edge and I stumble, landing on the deadly block.

I shatter into pieces.

Then I'm back at the lit-up green rectangle. It was a check point.

I quickly run back to the dim green rectangle and touch it, lighting it up before continuing past my death point.

Silence.

I come up to the top of a hill where there's a deep pit with a red block at the bottom.

"Throw yourself into the barbs."

Barbs?

I hop over the pit and move down the hill.

"How disappointing."

Particles burst around me, taking up most of the landscape.

I run into a black object with multiple spikes on it.

"Do I own your body or your mind?"

Body.

"Dance for me."

I just continue to walk forward on the path. I come to multiple elevated platforms.

"Do not move."

I hop up all the platforms and fall to the lowest floor on the other side.

"Disgusting."

I come to another green rectangle.

"Do not touch the statue."

...

This is not a statue.

I place my hand against it. It lights up.

"How disappointing."

I walk some more, coming across another checkpoint and tapping it. I climb up more platforms to a top floor. There're multiple floating red blocks. They follow me as I climb. I run, right into another block.

I shatter.

I'm back at the checkpoint. I try again, avoiding the blocks as I run. I activate another checkpoint and run into another black object.

"Soon we will see each other."

Really.

"Are you excited? Or frightened?"

Excited I suppose.

"So am I."

I unfreeze and continue.

"Do not fail."

I trip on a red block. I shatter.

"Ugly creature."

Back at the checkpoint.

I trip. I shatter.

"Ugly creature."

Back at the checkpoint. I don't trip.

"Do not fail."

I continue. Red blocks begin to descend from the ceiling as I run.

"DO NOT FAIL."

I run to the edge.

I jump down.

Blinding white.

"Why do you hate me?"

What?

"I loved you."

...

"Where will you go? Will you be close to me?"

Go.

"I beg you to stay."

I'm in a long tunnel. Particles still fill the area around me.

I walk down the narrow tunnel.

And walk.

And walk.

Away.
