(Ella's POV)
I jerked awake at the sound of rustling leaves in the treetops. I was up in my treehouse, sneaking a look at the dreamy boy I met last month, when we first moved to Colorado. The window in the middle of the one-room "apartment" had the perfect view of Finn's house.
I was confused about the dream I had just had. What was it? I had never had anything like that before; anything so... real. It was like chasing a rainbow. Kind of like a dream where you are falling down into nothingness, sometimes on your bed, although you know nothing like that has ever happened to you before and when you wake up, you still feel that stomach-dropping sensation of falling. However, I didn't have much time to think about my mysterious vision before I heard a faint scream followed by,
"Ella help! Please help! Where are you, Ella?"
I didn't have to think twice to realize that it was my 11-year-old sister, Hazel. As it processed through my mind, I realized it wasn't just Hazel, it was Hazel screaming for my help. In a flash I was down the splintery wooden ladders leading down from my old treehouse at the top of our banyon tree.
"Hazel! Hazel! Say something Hazel! I can't find you!"
I frantically searched around the lawn for any sign of my sister's sudden disappearance. I was worried sick and couldn't stop thinking about the rabid racoons out here that I'd heard of, or maybe some kind of poisonous snake that I'd not heard of.
All at once, time stopped. I saw something that took my breath away and left a knot in my throat. There was Hazel. Lying on the ground. Her chest wasn't rising. She wasn't moving. her eyes were open. Hazel was dead.
I know, so suspenseful! Well, there you go. There's your first chapter. If you want to hear more, we'll need votes and followers so, go on! Hope you like it. As most authors know, it is super hard to start and end a story but once you get caught in the middle of it, you're on a roll so please forgive me if these opening chapters goes by a bit fast and are kind of bland. I will get better, I promise you that! Happy reading!
