{STILES' POV}
"Malia thinks your taking the next step in your relationship on prom night you know" Scott stated offhandedly, launching the lacrosse ball toward the goal. Since we beat Theo, we all seemed to have a lot more free time on our hands, time to do things we loved, like practicing lacrosse. I leaned on my lacrosse stick with furrowed brows.
"And how might you know this?" I quizzed, surprised that he had a better knowledge of what was going on in my girlfriend's brain than I did.
"Malia talks to Kira" he shrugged "and Kira has a hard time keeping her mouth shut around me." A smirk rose to his face and my let out a disgusted sigh.
"That is just... so weird that you are talking about my sex life with Kira" I grunted, burying my forehead in my hands.
"Technically it's Malia's sex life that we're talking about" he offered "well, lack of it, as it seems that you two haven't gotten to that point yet."
"Oh, just please, stop" I laughed hysterically.
"Fine, fine" he held up his hands with a chuckle, before gripping on tight to his lacrosse stick and sending another ball hurtling toward the goal. I took a seat in the grass and started to pick at the fraying strings on my lacrosse stick.
"I'm gay Scott" I murmured, catching his attention. He looked over at me, a little taken off guard but also not entirely surprised. I knew he'd heard me, there was no way he couldn't have with his wolf hearing.
"So you're attracted to guys too, which is bi Stiles, not gay" he offered "it's not like Malia will toss you to the curb. She's one of the most accepting people I've ever known."
"No Scott, you're not hearing me" I insisted, speaking louder this time "I'm gay Scott... I have no sexual attraction for Malia. I love her Scott, I do.... but I'm not in love with her." I ran a shaky hand through my hair. Saying the truth out loud had just made it so real. Scott hesitated for a moment, taking time to let it sink in before he too, sank to the grass.
"So you're gay" he shrugged "how does this change anything? You're still the same Stiles that I grew up with. Still the same Stiles that I know and love."
"Yeah, I know.. that's not what's bothering me" I explained, taking a brief pause to gather my thoughts "I have to break up with her Scott... after what you said about her prom expectations I don't know how I'm supposed to do that. She's so invested in this relationship and I don't want to hurt her. I still care about her." We sat in a thick silence, both mulling the information over.
"If I were Malia... I'd want you to be honest" he offered "because if you think about it, you're hurting her even more by staying with her. Not only are you letting her become more attached to the relationship, but you're also keeping her from finding someone who can truly love her the way she wants and deserves."
He was right. The longer I was with Malia, the longer I was forcing her to live a lie without even realizing it. I had to put an end to it.
"Are you and Kira busy tonight?" I finally asked and he looked up from the grass.
"What were you thinking?" he quizzed.
"Bowling. If you and Kira are there, it will lessen the blow, she'll have friends there that way it still feels like a friend outing rather than a date gone bad after the break up" I offered.
"Okay, I'll talk to Kira" he nodded "we'll be there." I smiled at him, my best friend that I knew I could always count on.
"Thanks Scott" I whispered. He smiled back at me.
"You don't need to thank me Stiles" he shrugged "I'd do anything for you. It's what having a best friend is all about... it's what having a brother is all about.... speaking of which. I think our parents went out on a date last night."
"Wait, what? No way!" I gasped in disbelief, not that it was a bad thing. It was actually pretty sweet.
"Yeah, my mom came home late last night. When I'd asked her where she'd been, she was all secretive about it" he explained. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
"Why does that make you think she was out on a date with my dad?" I asked and he just smirked at me.
"That's the best part. She was wearing his winter scarf. She was probably too tired to think about it or she didn't think I'd notice" he pointed out and I widened my eyes before grinning at him.
"We are so going to be brothers" I laughed as we both pushed up off the grass and started making our way back toward the school.
"Definitely" he joked.
