Through their eyes, I am oppressed

I have no rights or freedoms

Through their eyes I’m uneducated

And have no sense of wisdom

Through their eyes, I am helpless

Unable to tell lie from truth

Through their eyes, I am naive

Because I don’t do the things they do

But through my eyes, I am an eagle

A symbol of liberty

Through my eyes, I’m cherished

And demand my dignity

Through my eyes, I am loved

My family believes in me

Through my eyes, I’m an equal

With my own fears and my own dreams

Could you see things the way I do

If we switch our lenses

If you understand me and I understand you

Could we end up as friends?

I say we can, and the time is now

We’ll start by saying “Hello”

We’ll disclaim the stereotypes and bring them down

And by the end, everyone will know

That I am me and you are you

We may see things differently

But we can change and this is true

And this change can be done easily
