Kevin is sitting by a fire, his dirty blonde hair slick from being wet. Rodrick is pacing slowly by the fire, holding the bridge of his nose in frustration. "So, lemme get this straight, Kris dared you to jump in a lake, while YOU were on watch, and you accepted?" Rodrick looks down at Kevin, who's expression says something stupid, like "no regrets" Kris is in the background, doing everything in her power to not laugh. "Come on, Rodry, it was totally worth it." Kris said. Rodrick sighs audibly, sitting on a log by the fire. "Don't call me that." he mutters. Rodrick throws Kevin a grey blanket. "The last thing we need is for you to catch pneumonia or something, Kevin." His runs a hand through his brown hair, sighing again. After a good 2 minutes of silence, Rodrick stands up. "Someone has to be on watch I guess. Even though I was on watch yesterday, and literally haven't slept for a day," There was a small growl in his tone as he said that. "....Just rest up, ok, Kev?"

He walks away, and Kris is the first to say something. "But it was stillllll worth it." she holds up her fist to fist bump Kevin. He smirks and bumps fists with her. "Psh! Yeah."

A few hours later, Kevin is done drying off. Kris is long asleep. Kevin gets up and walks to the watch tower. And by watch tower, they mean a beach chair on top of a really tall shed with a gun next to it. Kevin climbs up and finds Rodrick, half asleep, but determined to finish his shift. Kevin sits down next to him, his feet dangling over the edge of the shed's roof. Rodrick notices him and smiles lightly. "Dried off, huh?" Kevin looks off into space. "Yeah..." He turns his head back to Rodrick, noticing how tired he looks. "Man, you need to sleep." Kevin says almost sounding alarmed. Rodrick rolls his eyes, still smiling. "Nah, I'm fine. To survive in this... screwed up world, you need to be basically immune to sleepiness." Rodrick leans back in his chair, looking up at the shimmering stars. "Now that I really think of it... we don't know anything about how this started... when this is going to end... nothing." There is a moment of silence and tension. "God... how did mom and dad expect me to raise Krissy in a world like this..?" Rodrick puts his head in his hands. Kevin is about to say something, but decides not to. He closes his mouth and looks down.

Kevin never really knew anything about why Rodrick's parents had left him and Kris. He didn't know if they were dead in the early stages of the apocalypse, or if they just left while Rodrick and Kris were sleeping. It puzzled Kevin, this had started nearly 3 years ago.... if they weren't dead, they would have returned by now, right?

Right?

Kevin internally sighs, deciding it might be a touchy subject. They sit in silence. Before Kevin breaks the silence. "Well... you're doing a pretty good job.." That was stupid, Kevin.

Rodrick laughs lightly. "I can always count on your stupidity to break the silence..." A minute goes by of just... mindless talking, before it falls silent again. "Come on Rod, you need to sleep." There is a little bit of arguing before Kevin wins. Rodrick gets up and sits on the roof and Kevin sits in the watch seat. Rodrick yawns and plops his head on the arm of the chair. "Wake me up in... 20 minutes, I want to continue watching." Rodrick says through a yawn. Kevin nods, stroking his hand through Rodrick's soft hair, smiling. "Sure bud." Kevin looks into the night, a few walkers occasionally passing by. It doesn't take long for Rodrick to start falling into a slumber, snores escaping his throat. Not too loud to attract walkers, but kind of light and... pleasant.

Now it's morning. Kevin looks still pretty awake, but a hint of sleepiness coming from him. By now, Rodrick's head is on Kevin's lap. Kevin had moved him there, because Rodrick was getting a bruise from the hard arm of the chair on his face all night. Kris climbs up the ladder and says good morning to Kevin. She has a camera that has dirt all over it in her hands. "What's that?" Kevin points to it. Her face lights up, as if she was waiting for him to ask. She dusts it off a little, before beginning her story of how she found it. "Well, I woke up, and there was a weird figure over by fence 4. I grabbed my emergency shotgun and walked over to investigate. The figure was trying to get in the fence, and I walked up to it, and it got scared off. Something dropped out of it's pocket, and I reached under the fenced and got it. And I got this!" She holds up the dirty camera proudly.

Rodrick wakes up from all the talking. He stirs for a second, before springing up, noticing how it was day. "Kevin! I said wake me up in 20 minutes!" Kevin makes his best confused face. "What? I thought you said 20 hours..." Kevin was never the best liar. Rodrick rolls his eyes, but deep down he knows he needed that sleep. Kevin chuckles and turns his attention back to Kris. "Cool, but why are you so excited about a camera of all things?" Kris smirks "Because when all of this ends, we'll have video footage of this! We'll be RICH!" Kevin nods slowly, kind of understanding where she's coming from. "This could be educational footage that they'll show in schools, documentaries, ELLEN!" Kris is off in her own world, thinking of all the outcomes of her recording everyday life. Kevin is chuckling at her overzealous enthusiasm.

Rodrick is only now starting to listen, and is very confused, before Kris tells the story of how she found it all over again, same enthusiasm level. Rodrick's ears pick up something in particular. "Someone was trying to get in fence 4?!" Kris and Kevin suddenly stop thinking about the camera, acknowledging that little fact. "Oh sh*t." Kevin says, in shock. Rodrick groans before hurrying down to fence 4. Kevin and Kris glance at each other before following after him. They find him standing in front of fence 4, staring at a large cut in the fence. About big enough for a medium sized dog to get in. Rodrick still thought this was a big deal. "Rod, come on, it's not that big of a deal, we'll just call a builder over and have them put up another board." Rodrick sighs. "I guess you're right. But we should still announce over the intercom for everyone to be aware." Kevin agrees with Rodrick and calls up builder Darrell on a walkie-talkie. Kris apologizes profusely to Rodrick, and he says it's fine. "Just a little stressed is all... it's not your fault." Kris seems to be cheered up by this.

Kris is really all Rodrick has, and vice versa. Kevin is a close family friend, but they are the only part of family left. Of course, it's hard for Kevin, too, but... he has... no family left. Kriss, Rodrick, and this camp are the only things Kevin really has. His mother was a single mom, and he had a 4 year old brother. Kevin was adopted. It never really bothered him, as much as it would for a typical adopted child. He loved his family. Kevin stops thinking about it, as he notices he's staring at Rodrick and Kris hugging. He snaps out of it, trying not to think of the subject. The builder arrives with a bag of maybe 10-20 nails and a wood plank. He sets them down and itches his belly. He talks in a thick southern accent. If Rodrick's uncle didn't have a southern accent, he wouldn't have made out what he said. "Is this wood 'ere good? Karen gave me this 'ere, and she said you guys like this type of wood. Is that true, boys?" Rodrick nods and tells him thanks. Kevin and Rodrick walk away. "Did you understand what he just said?" Kevin says quietly. "Barely." They snicker as they walk away, before hearing some yelling and threatening behind them.
