Lunch.

Zeverly dreaded this time of the day, everyday it would be the same old thing. Blacks would fill up the tables on one side, and Whites would do the same on the opposite side.  The minority of kids who were mix with would sit in the furthest corner, away from both tables. It was like World War 3, each side divided and waiting for one side to strike. It was sickening to watch, she would never understand how people who put the pants on the same way could hate each other.

This was the world she lived in, a world she wasn't too fond of.

On the upside, she got to sit and talk with her friends. Zeverly sat near the window, at the Black table with both of her best friends Mary and Mahogany. Mahogany Robinson had been her friend since fifth grade. Mary was your typical stereotype Black girl, she was riotous, loud, outspoken, and obnoxious. She had a flip mouth, and would curse you out in a heartbeat. On the scale of beauty, Mahogany would be a ten. She had natural long black hair, light skin, and a slender body. Her hips weren't wide like Zeverly, and she  could get just about any boy she wanted. Rumor has it that Mahogany father was a white male, rather this was true or not Mahogany never addressed it.

Mary Jackson was the opposite of both girls, she wasn't quiet like Zeverly, nor was she loud like Mary. She spoke when she felt her opinion was needed not wanted, she was cynical and sarcastic. Zeverly had known Asia since third grade, and even than her views on life was beyond her age. Her appearances matched her personality. She was dark skin, wore her hair in a puff afro, she had wider hips like Zeverly. For as long as Zeverly known her, Mary would always dress like an old woman, even at dances she looked like she could have been someone's mother.

"Get. Off. Your. Phone." Mahogany said in a nagging tone, trying to grab the phone from Zeverly.  Zeverly swatted her hand away.

"I'm almost done." Zeverly said, her eyes glued to the screen. She was logged into her usual chat-room with Bballpro21.

They both had been talking since this morning, and have been playing a game. The you ask me a question, I ask you a question game. She didn't known when their conversation turn so personally, but she couldn't stop herself from texting him. Their conversation lately have all been more personal than needed, she knew he played basketball, his favorite color was red, and he didn't get along with his father. She didn't ask him to go any deeper about his father, but she knew his father owned a company and wanted to force his life on Bballpro21.

Received text: I can't believe you like that movie, I thought I was the only one. So, what are you doing right now?

Zeverly was unsure why she felt this way, but she always felt a strange connection to Bballpro21. It was almost like he close to her, closer than she think. Zeverly wonder at times was she losing her mind, the more she talked to him the more she felt closer to him. she knew for a fact she didn't like him, how could she like someone she didn't know in real life? Maybe she was overthinking it, they were just friends nothing more.

That thought always bugged her more than it should.

"You been smiling at the phone for ten minutes straight." Mary said, Zeverly attention snapped from her phone screen back to her friends.

"Sorry, I was thinking about something." Zeverly said, picking up her spoon and finishing the peas on her tray.

"Is it that online boy wasn't it?"  Mahogany said rather loud, her voice carrying over to the next table. The table which were occupied by male students looked over at the three girls curiously.  Zeverly shifted nervously in her chair.
