Chapter 1

I sigh as I look out my window. Tomorrow’s the last day before we go back to Hogwarts, I think to myself. It’s going to be my last year there before I go out and try to find a job. I applied to be Head Girl this year, and I am really hoping to get the spot. All jobs look at your school records, and being Head Girl would look brilliant.

I watch below as my large family begins to arrive at my house. Mum thought it would be best for everyone to say goodbye to Hugo and I today, so we could relax tomorrow before we leave.

I catch a glimpse of my reflection in the mirror, and realize that I am not at all ready to be spending the day with my family. I’m still in my sleepwear and my fiery red hair is sticking out every-which-way. I groan and walk over to my closet and begin searching for an outfit to wear.

“Rose!!” I hear my mum call from downstairs. I open my door and stick my head out. “Are you up? The family is arriving!”

“Mum, could you help me pick out an outfit?” I call down. My mum is probably my favorite family member. Well, besides Albus. My mum has always been the one to talk to when I’ve had a problem, and she loves it when I ask for advice.

“Of course, Rosie! I’ll be right up!” I smile and walk over to my bed to perch on the edge.

It’s not that I’m not happy to see my family, I am, it’s just there’s certain people that I’m not quite fond of. My cousin Victoire, for example. I love her to pieces, but she is just so annoying. She’s always trying to get me to change my appearance, or badgering me about guys. One time I had to lock myself in the bathroom just to get away from her.

There’s a knock on my door and my mother walks in. She’s wearing a blue and white floral dress that falls right below her knees. Her hair is in perfect curls and I can see she has a hint of makeup on.

“I guess I should wear a dress, then.” I say with a smile. I stand up and walk over to my closet, my mom following behind me.

“Rose, why didn’t you pick something out last night? And your hair is a disaster. Teddy and Victoire are already here, and your uncle is almost here.” She says softly, running her hand through my hair. I laugh.

“Which uncle, Mum?” I begin to look through my selection of dresses. She laughs.

“Uncle George.” She murmurs a charm that makes my hair untangle itself and fall into neat waves down my back.

“Thanks.” I’m about to pull out a dress, when Mum interrupts.

“Ooo, I like this one.” She tugs at the skirt of a light pink dress with small white birds all over it. I take it out of the closet and hold it up in front of my mirror.

“Didn’t you buy me this one?” I ask with a slight smirk. She grins.

  “Doesn’t mean I can’t like it.”

“Okay, I’ll wear this one.” I smile.

“Good choice. Hurry up, dear. I’ll see you downstairs.” She gives my forehead a kiss and exits the room. I quickly slip the dress over my head and slide into a pair of white sneakers. I stop by my vanity and put a small bow in my hair before going downstairs.

“Oi! Red! What took you so long?” I hear my cousin James call from the kitchen. I walk to where he is and see he’s with Fred, and Roxanne.

"That’s what took her so long.” Roxanne says with a giggle, looking at my outfit.

“Who are you dressed up for, Rosie-Posey?” Fred says with a grin. “I’m sure you’re not going to be flirting with family, and definitely not Malfoy, so did you invite someone?”
