Your POV:
We had been driving for hours.
"Can you please explain what's going on now?" I asked. I leaned against the car window, biting on my lip harshly. I was growing paranoid.
Aspen was silent. His eyes were fixated on the road, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration. He nervously tapped his fingers against the driver's wheel, ignoring my questions.
Rain fell outside, making the road jet black and shiny in the moonlight. The droplets hit my window, slowly dripping down until it was gone out of sight.
Pit. Pat. Pit. Pat.
Drip. Drop. Drip drop.
Pit pat.The rain fell rhythmically. Usually, at a time like this, when the rain created the perfect lullaby, my mind would be put at ease, and I would drift off to sleep. However, the rain only spiked my paranoia now.
Travis caught me when I slipped off a wet branch on our first official date. That same day he helped me conquer my fear of thunder. We sat in comfortable silence after the date, listening to the rain, not a worry in our minds.
We shared our first kiss in the rain.
I'm worried about Travis.
I can't lose him.
"Please, Aspen, just answer me," I pleaded for the thousandth time. The corners of my eyes were pooling with tears, threatening to fall down my cheeks.
Aspen sighed heavily. "I don't think you want to know," he whispered. He turned into a parking lot, parking his car in one of the rows.
I didn't say anything. I didn't know how to respond to that really. So, we just sat there.
The building before us appeared to be an old hotel, made of brick, half of the letters of the sign gone out. Trash littered the parking lot, which was crumbled up, with cracks running through it. It was in the middle of no where. I didn't even know where we were. There were no other buildings around, except an abandoned gas station. The place gave me the chills. All that was around the little hotel were miles of farmland, stretching across the whole horizon.
The wheat in the fields swayed gently, creating a noise that could only be described as the sound of waves on a beach. The only thing more eerie and frightening than the hotel was the darkness in the tall wheat and corn stalks. Anything could've been out there.
-and whatever was out there was watching me. I felt like I was being watched.
I gulped. "Listen, Aspen. I don't care anymore. I want to know right now. If you don't tell me, then I'm leaving." I said sternly. I narrowed my eyes at my brother, who I thought I knew so well.
When Aspen didn't answer, I reached my hand out, grabbing the door handle.
"No, wait," Aspen said coldly. He grabbed my wrist, pulling me back into my seat.
"So, what is it? Are you going to tell me now?"
"I can't tell you everything right now, but I will explain some of it."
"Okay. That's fine. I just need answers."
Aspen looked around, as if he was looking to see if anyone was listening into the conversation, even though we were the only ones there.
"Y/N, you lost a part of your memory. Well, you memories were altered... by yourself. You had this really important plan, but it backfired. Now Travis has been kidnapped by some really messed up people, and we need to save him. There's one problem though. Where he is, we can't go."
"What do you mean? Can't you give me more than that?"
"Listen, all I can tell you right now is that a lot of your past memories have a hidden part to them. You altered your own memories a few years ago to protect me, Travis, and many other people. The potion you used was too strong though. Everything went downhill, and now we need you more than ever. The people that you were protecting Travis from took him. There is more than one enemy. Right now, we're both fighting against monsters and people known as heroes right now. You can do what you want, but I'm pretty sure that you don't want Travis to die, and I'm pretty sure that you want to get some more answers. Neither of those things will happen though if you don't come with me, and listen," Aspen said.
I bit my lip. "What do you mean? I've known Travis for less than a year."
"It will all be explained soon. Now are you going to follow my plan?"
"Y-yes, of course. I want to save Travis. I'm just scared and confused, Aspen," I whispered.
A tear fell down my cheek, which Aspen quickly swept away with his thumb. He gave me a small smile, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. "It's going to be okay, sis. Just know that you have more power than you think. You're the ultimate weapon."
I nodded in response, unknowing of how to respond. "Okay. Well, what are we waiting for?"
Just the thought of Travis getting hurt at all made me want to vomit. I loved him too much to watch him suffer. I hated it even if he had the slightest bruise on him. I couldn't handle anything worse than that.
