Punks and Penny Boards

Chapter 1

Hello my names Roni. I'm 16 years old and I live in California. I have long dyed copper hair and I'm tall. I've never considered myself as girly. I like skateboarding around with my friends and going to the beach sometimes. I have one friend who is a girl and the rest of them are guys. Girls bore me. When I was younger I used to play in the mud and catch bugs so maybe that why. The guys I hang out with treat me as if I am a dude. I like wearing flannel shirts with beanies band tees and a some shorts.

Me and my one girlfriend Zelda (yes I know Zelda for real) share a small condo near the beach and the skatepark. Sometimes my dad comes and lives with us when he's off work but he won't be back til summers over. Me and Zelda have been friends since 2nd grade or 1st but I can't quite remeber. All I remeber is us playing with toy trucks in the sandbox and that's where it all started.

"Coming to the skatepark"? Zelda asked clutching her skateboard in her arms.

"Hell yeah"! I said.

I grabbed my green penny board from our room. Me and Zelda raced down the stairway. Elevators are for losers. As soon as I got onto the pavement I hopped on my board and started to cruise down the LA street. It was smooth and the sun was hot. I could smell the ocean.

"I bet I can beat you"! I said speeding up so I was just ahead of her.

Zelda started to go even faster so I did to.

I zipped past her almost knocking her off the skateboard.

Soon we reached the skate park. I scanned looking for our group of friends. Finally I found them off to the side. They had brought a stereo and put a blink-182 CD in it. I love blink-182.

"Hey guys"! Zelda said getting off her board and standing next to me.

I zoned out of they're conversation to notice a tall blonde boy I'd never seen before. He was really good at skating.

"Hey Roni wanna come to my party tommorow "? Asked Tom. He's one of the guys we hang out with.

"Yeah sure that'd be awesome". I said. Even though I wasn't much of a party person.

So I guess I'll tell you all the guys names. So there's Tom. He's tall and brunette and 16 like me. Then there's his brother James who's 18. He's tall and skinny and also brunette. Also there's the two twins Jai and Maxwell and they're 16 and both blonde. So that all of my crazy friends.

My eyes wandered back to the tall blonde again. I was jealous of his skating skills. I wanted to go talk to him but I thought my awkwardness might scare him away.

"Well I'm gonna go skate around". I said to the guys and Zelda.

I skated down the small ramp and cruised around on the sidewalks and around the skatepark. I felt pro until I hit a bump and fell.

"Need a hand". Said the boy reaching out to me and helping me up.

"Uh thank you". I said brushing the dust off my butt.

"You were doing pretty good until you fell". He giggled. "I'm Luke by the way. Luke hemmings.

So Luke. That was his name. Luke hemmings.

"I'm Roni". I said smiling. He smiled back. He had crystal blue eyes and wore a blink-182 tee which I thought was cool.

"You like blink"? I said. Luke looked down at his shirt

"Yeah that's my favorite band". He said.

I looked behind Luke to see Zelda and Tom giggling at me.

"Well I guess I'll see you around then". I paused. "Luke".

"I'll see you too". He said grinning.

"You totally like him". Zelda said. "You were blushing like crazy"! She laughed

"DO NOT"! I shouted angrily. Although I think I might be lying

"Well whatever then goodnight Roni". She climbed under the covers of her bed.

The next morning rolled along. Today was Toms party, but first I had to go to work. I would usually skate to work since we weren't far from the mall. I had a job at a skateshop. Jai and Maxwell also worked there. When I got to work I put my stuff in my locker in the back and noticed Luke was here talking with my manager who was a complete ass.

"Luke"? I said as he walked over to me.

"Your names Rachel right"? He asked.

"No it's Roni, but close enough". I laughed.

Me and Luke were both working at the check out today. We chatted alot. Mostly about skateboarding.

"Well Rachel oops I mean Roni". Luke broke out in laughter and handed me a slip of paper. "Here uh... have my number and call me so we can hang out sometimes. You seem like a cool girl". He said.

I blushed a little and so did he. I skated back to mine and Zelda's place to get ready for the party.
