A tiny little thing, she was. Far too young for those eyes, or that walk, or that tongue. But she didn’t mind, and if it saved her hide. I must have seemed like some big stupid oaf compared to her. Little Evangeline-Renée Cassé, the oldest child in existence. Now every story has a beginning, but none near as spectacular as mine.

I heard a knock at the door of my flat, I’d say around 2:00 AM. I was exhausted; finally having been able to escape from the three hour lecture my ex-wife had decided I needed in the middle of the night. Despite my aching joints, I pulled myself to my feet, ignoring my body’s screams of protest. I hobbled over to the door awkwardly. I had begun to reach for the door knob just as the person on the other side of the door hammered on the door once more.

I flinched, but all the same, pulled open the door. It creaked as it swung back, only to revel a girl who seemed to be vibrating. “Hello. Mirrors, do you have any mi- oh dear sweet lord…..“ It took me a moment to understand her. She had an extremely thick accent, by the sound of it southern, but not like one I had ever heard of.

So while I stood there trying now to decipher what she meant, she was already sprinting around my home. My entire building was made of glass, the one and only in all of New York. From outside it was a spectacular sight, but at the moment I dreaded what this child knew.

“You- what are you doing?” I shouted once I was caught up best I could. I rubbed sleep from my eyes. She was still there. I reached out to grab her shoulder, and when she turned around I stumbled backwards. This was no average child. From behind or at first glance she looked like some middle school girl, but once you got a good look at her, it was horrifying.

She had short, messy hair that fell a few inches below her shoulders. A combination of reds and browns and even peppered with gold, like nothing he had seen. She was tiny, maybe 5’1” if that. And she was small around the waist as well. But her face…That was something completely different. Her nose was small; her lips thin, with plump cheeks and high cheek bones. Large mismatched eyes that gave off an inhuman glow. One was light, foggy blue while the other dark  hazel. But none of it matched. If she resembled anything, it would be a quilt or some other piece of patchwork.

                “Who the he// are you?”

“Is that really all that important right now?” She snapped at me, never looking up from starring into the mirror

                “Yes.” I stated, stubbornly.

“Fine, hello, I’m Evangeline-Renée Cassé, but since that’s such a mouth full, I go by Eve. You are-” She froze and went ridged. “-Johnny Curtis. You are the C.E.O. of a hardware company called Greyscale. You are divorced with two kids, a boy and a girl. Your ex-wife is Helen Pykes, your daughter is Zoe and your son is Alec Curtis. Anything else?” She asked and I shook my head nervously.

“H-how did you know all of that stuff?” I asked cautiously, but she did not answer me. She simply ignored my questions. She was starring in the mirror, but it took me a good while to realize what she was looking at. Her reflection was moving. Mouthing something, with a look of pure terror on her big, inhuman eyes.

"Bring a out a sheet, a blanket, i don't very well care! Bring me something!" She bellowed. I was stunned for a moment.

"Excuse me?Who are you to tell me what to do, and in my own home at that!" I stuttered right back. The look she gave me could make anyones skin crawl.

"I said..."

I had lost. I shuffled to my linnen closet. "Hurry UP!" She screamed. I grabbed all that i could and ran to the den. I droped them on the ground, panting. She reached for the pile and threw a sheet over the mirror, swirling around gracefully, she grabbed my wrist and tugged it gently. "You have to leave, now. Get everyone out, please..."She whispered.

Her touch was cold and her grip hard. There was a hidden threat in her words, i could feel it. I firmly removed her hand from my arm.
