This is the moment I've been waiting for. The chance to score the winning goal for the most important game of the year.
I dribble up the field, faking out the defender I shoot . . . .
The ball went right beside the keepers head into the goal.
The crowd goes crazy as my teammates run over to me.
"You did it! We won!"
Let me tell you everything before we go any farther.
I'm Landri Brookes, the star player on my co-ed school soccer team. Being the only girl on the team isn't easy but today helped my chance to get closer to the guys. I just won us the game and this isn't just any game, it's the game we've waited for the whole season. We just won against our rivals, the warriors.
Now, we may continue.
After we celebrate we line up and shake hands with the other team.
As I'm going through a boy catches my eye.
Wow I think, he's really cute and I mean like a he is a gift from god himself.
Landri stop! You have a boyfriend!
"Your not so bad yourself." He smirks
Holy shrimp! I said that out loud?
"Hey!" He pulls me back to reality.
"Your team wants you." He points over to my team standing in a huddle waiting for me.
I quickly run over and join the team.
"Landri, why would you talk to one of them. Unless you were terrorizing them."my teammate Josh says  as I reach them. As you can tell, we hate each other. They hate us, we hate them. It's been this way forever.
"You guys played great today!" My coach says congratulating us.
"There are a couple of things we need to work on but that can wait until practice alright Panthers on three."
"One . . . Two . . . Three Panthers!" We yell in unison before braking and head to our families.
I'm about to get half way to my family when I feel a hand on my shoulder.
"Wait!" The voice says spinning me around. It's the boy from earlier.
"I just wanted to formally introduce myself and say that you were amazing out there." He says smiling.
"Uh . . . Thanks but we shouldn't be talking. People are starting to stare." I look up to see everyone in the stands giving us death glares.
"As much as I'd really like to stay in talk, we can't."I continue.
"This can't be the last time I see you." Ok I feel like I'm in a movie.
"Well for one you'll  see me at our next game against each other and I need your name before we meet again." I reply.
"No, I want to see you off the field."
"Well that doesn't answer my second question." I put my hands on my hips.
"It's Alex, now will you agree to meet with me again?" He asks.
"Oh well-"I'm cut off by my brother.
"Come on Landri! It's time to go."
My 16 year old brother, Jack. He wants me to be just like him, they had an undefeated season when they played the Warriors. All my brother cares about is winning so I know what's coming.
He pulls me away from Alex and drags me to the car while yelling at me.
"What were you doing! You can't talk to him! He's the enemy."
I roll my eyes at his statement and walk to my friends.
"Landri! You did amazing out there!" My best friend Hannah says to me as she side hugs me.
"Thanks" I smile.
"Where is Max?" Max is my boyfriend, I'm happy with him but her never comes to my games.
"He went to go see a movie." Austin, his  brother replies.
I sigh and head to the car.
"Landri! What's wrong?" Hannah asks catching up to me.
"I can't believe he would miss this. This was the most important game of the season and he missives it to go see a movie with his friends. Does that's sound like a good boyfriend to you?"
" Landri, he likes you, you know that. He wouldn't do anything to throw away your relationship." Austin says.
"Then why did he miss this?" I ask annoyed.
"I don't know, I'll talk to him when he gets home. Don't worry about it." Austin gives me a hug then walks away.
"Landri it will be ok." Hannah reassures me.
"Thanks." I smile.
"You wanna spend the night tonight since you already coming to my volleyball game?" She asks. We always go to each others games, no matter what happens.
"Sure let me ask my mom." I quickly call my mom and ask her if I can.

"Yes you can just let me know when to pick you up."
"Thanks mom love you! Bye." I hang up and tell Hannah I can go.
"So what do you want to do now?" "We get out of here because it's freezing."
Hannah says and we walk to her car.
"I want a shower." I get in the car as Hannah opens her door.
"Ok well after that." She sits down and buckles her seat belt.
"Well I want to get dressed, do my hair-" Hannah cuts me off.
"Landri I'm serious."
"Sorry."  I pause "how about we get pizza."
"Sounds good."
We drive to her house and I quickly shower, blow dry my hair, do a tiny bit of make up and pick out an outfit from Hannah's closet.

"What should I wear?" I ask looking through her clothes.
"Hmm, here wear this sweater with some black leggings and my gray ankle fuzzy boots." She hands me the clothes and I go into her bathroom and change.
"How do I look?" I ask walking back in.
"You look really cozy." She says turning off her phone.
"Now let's go eat I'm starving."

We hop in her car and her mom drives us to a local pizza restaurant called Larry's.
"Thanks mom we'll call you when we're done." Hannah kisses her mom and we walk inside.
"It's so warm in here." Hannah says looking around.
"Omg!" She perks.
"What?" I ask looking at her.
"It's that guy from your game today." She points to a corner booth, there sits Alex and his family.
"Cool." I reply and walk to the register. Here you pay for the buffet then go and eat.
"Two buffets please."
"Cool? That's all you say! I watched you two after the game today." She tells me.
"What can I get you two to drink?" The lady asks.
"Two sweet teas please." Hannah says.
"So that means nothing." I reply grabbing my drink and walking to a table.
"Oh come on. Don't play dumb." She grabs a plate and goes through the line to get her food. I part from her and go to the salad bar.
If you want a good salad you come here. These are amazing.
"Hey" says a voice behind me.
I look up at the person who owns the voice.
"Hi Alex."I reply putting lettuce in my bowl.
"So what are you doing here?" I ask "you don't live close."
"I wanted to try it and it looks like I made the right decision. This place is pretty popular." I look around at the tables full of families and friends.
"Yah your right."
"So since we aren't on the field in front of our schools . . . Do you wanna hang out?" He asks.
"I still don't think that's a good idea." I really want to but it's not right.
"Oh come one! No one is gonna rat us out. I really want to hang out with you!"
"Can I ask why you have a sudden interest in me? We've played each other many times but you never acted like you cared before." I put my hands on my hips.
"I don't know, I can't explain it."
"I think you can."
"Fine." He sighs "I like you. I don't know how it suddenly happened but something just clicked in the game today."
Wow! Holy crap! He likes me! This guy is perfect! He's everything I've ever wanted and he likes me?! This is unbelievable! Wait. I have a boyfriend.
"Landri." He snaps his fingers in front of my face.
"You-you like me?" I point my finger to my chest.
"Yah, why is something wrong? Do you like me?"
"I do but this won't work out for May reasons."
"What reasons?"
"One, I have a boyfriend and two, your my rival."
"Oh." He puts his head down and walks away.
"Wait!" I call.
He turns towards me.
"Maybe I can work out the first problem. I mean he never ever comes to support me at my games and I always go to his. He never wants to do anything I want to and objects when I try to suggest anything." I sigh.
"No girl should be treated like that. He doesn't deserve you."
I blush at his comment.
Maybe this could work.
