Erin was still off to the side talking to a group of guys. I didn't really care, nor did it suprise me. She was boy crazy and I totally understood. Those guys were hot.
Normally Austin and Alex would be trying to get girls' numbers or attempting to look "cool".
Although their definition of cool is riding around on a segway trying to pick up girls.
Austin had his full attention on me this time. His eyes would sparkle everytime he looked at me. He smiled for absolutley no reason. Just the way I liked it. We've known each other for so long, and even though he's my best friend, that smile never fails to give me chills.
We reached the shore line and I stuck a toe in the water.
God it's freezing.
I didn't move, and Austin was already halfway out in the water. Casually acting like nobody was there he splashed the water everywhere. He glanced both ways, then turned around and finally found me. He ran his fingers through his wet hair, and licked his lips.
Placing his hands on his hips he called to me, "Aren't you coming in?"
"Yeah it's just a little cold, don't you think?" I pushed my hair back behind my ears and looked down, playing in the sand with my toes.
"If it was cold do you think I would be standing in here?" he chuckled.
I shrugged, and heard him sigh.
"He really hurt you didn't he...?" he asked softly. I could see it in his eyes that he felt bad. But he shouldn't. It's not his fault I'm not good enough and it's not Ben's fault either. It's always my fault. I was a mistake and I even knew it. My mom knew it, my dad knew it before he died, and I'm sure Ben was just starting to figure that out.
I didn't know what to say. He had his eyes on me and I felt a burning sensation in my chest. He kills me inside.
"WIll you just please smile? I love your smile," he was so innocent. Of course, I gave in. I smiled. It felt good, especially when it was him who was making me smile.
I saw him come running torwards me, next thing I knew I was in his arms. He had picked me up bridal style and began running back in the water.
"Austin put me down now! This water's freezing!"
"No," he kept laughing and I laughed with him, begging him to let me down.
I tried to wiggle out of his arms but it was no use. He had his hold on me and he wasn't planning on letting me go anytime soon.
"Do you really want down?" he looked down at me raising his eyebrows with that smirk he always had on his face. I nodded and mouthed the word please.
His hold on me became tighter, but then I felt nothing at all. I was freezing, and I couldn't breathe.
This kid threw me in the water.
I finally pulled myself back up, only to hear Austin laugh. I wiped the water out of my eyes and he was biting his lip tyring not to laugh. He knew not to piss me off.
"Why would you do that!?" I couldn't help but laugh.
"I did what you asked little girl, I put you down" he ran his fingers through his hair once again and licked his lips.
"Little girl?" I said with a sarcastic tone and a small grin on my face. He grinned back.
"Oops" he shrugged his shoulders.
I responded by splashing water on his face. We went back and forth for 5 minutes.
"Okay, okay, I'm done" I said shaking. I was still freezing.
I felt arms wrap around me and right away I knew they were Austin's. I hugged back even tighter. He was rubbing my back just like he did the night of the breakup. He made me feel safe.
"Thank you," he whispered softly.
"For what?" I gigged.
He placed his lips on my ear, and I could feel his warm breath sending chills all the way down my body. "For smiling"

Austin and I made our way back to the house. Erin would eventually find her way back sooner or later. We weren't too worried. Austin had his shoulder placed around me the whole time. We reached the parking lot and I saw a familiar car. I looked at Austin giving him a concerned look. He understood right away. He took my hand and we ran to his door. We had to get in before he saw where I was, because he would never leave. It was the last thing I ever wanted.
No, it couldn't be.
Please no.
I was just starting to forget about you,
Why are you here?
