My alarm sounded loudly beside me and the sun shined through my window. I groaned as I rolled over to press the snooze button for the sixth time, now knowing I was running late. Monday mornings just never go well... I roll out of bed and walk into the bathroom and turn on the shower, all while being half asleep.
Once I've showered, I brush my teeth, straighten my wavy hair, and put on eyeliner and mascara, and my school uniform. I pinned my ID badge to my navy blazer, grab my keys, and run out the door. My parents aren't here right now anyway, so there's no scolding about running late before I leave. They're always off on some business trip, but they should be headed back from their latest one soon.
I pulled into the student parking lot with three minutes to get all the way to my class. Cutting it close, but it's okay. Me being who I am, they usually let my tardies slide. I walk into the building and hear the tardy bell ring.
I walked into class exactly 15 minutes late. "Mrs Evans, how kind of you to join us today." Mr Baker says, obviously annoyed. "Yeah, yeah." I say, walking to my seat. Class passes by so slowly. Baker can drone on and on about the same thing for hours. He makes calculus worse, if that's even possible. Thank god I'm good at it, otherwise I would flunk just because I can't stand to listen to him talk.

It's five minutes until the end of the day. I'm counting seconds. The phone rings, and Mrs Chesswater answers in her nasally voice. "Mrs Evans, the principal would like to see you right away. It's important." You have to be kidding me, right? I fling my bag onto my back and stalk out of the room. I walk up to the lady at the front desk. "The principal wants to see me." I said, very annoyed. "Okay, darlin'. Head on back there. His office is the second door on your left." the lady at the desk says in her thick southern accent.
"Mrs Evans, please have a seat." Mr Gallaway says to me, acting very nervous. "Okay..." I say, just ready to go home.
"Mrs Evans, we have received some bad news. It's about your parents." he says. I roll my eyes, "They're staying in Colorado even longer, aren't they? Jesus, I knew this would happen!" Mr Gallaway takes a deep breath, "Mrs Evans, your parents were involved in a plane crash this morning. I'm sorry to inform you, but they were already dead when help got there." I feel my heart sink to the floor. They're dead. They're really gone. "Mrs Evans, seeing as you have no one else to take care of you, we are going to have to place you in foster care." he says to me, but I don't care. I can't breathe, I can't feel anything. And that's when everything went black.
