Mark folds up his wings and rubs the back of his neck with one hand. "Well, does that answer your question? That's why I was disappointed in myself for telling you, because in put you in trouble with them." I nod, leaning back against the wall for support. "Thanks, I suppose," I say.
He nods in response, but makes no other effort to continue the conversation. "Do you... maybe want to leave now?" I ask Mark. He nods again and turns out of the alleyway back to the pub.

We drive home enveloped in the same awkward silence. Finally I can't take it anymore. "Please, tell me what's wrong," I beg Mark. "I will fix it, please, just talk to me again."
He lets out a short, surprised laugh. "You have not figured it out yet?" I cock my head. "What?" He laughs again, a real one this time. "I forgot that humans... well, never mind. Nothing was the matter, love, just something Gabriel said." The nickname surprises me, but I like it. I pull his hand off the gearshift and lace my fingers with his. "Alright," I say.Mark drives us back to his house, which, honestly, I don't mind. I don't particularly feel like going into work today. Or tomorrow. Or, you know, ever.
As Mark pulls into the , I swing out of the car, closing the door loudly behind me. I hop up the steps to the door before coming to the sudden realization that Mark had the keys. I slump against the door, cradling my head in my hands. My , and I think it's from all the I've received. I want to sleep. My brain is shutting down to try to cope.
Mark comes up the front walk, glancing worriedly at me, but unlocking the door silently. I kick off my the door, heading right upstairs. I collapse on Mark's bed, barely registering the man himself coming up the stairs.
He sat down gently behind me, laying down and wrapping his arms around me from behind. "You know, someone might find this position a little weird," I say tiredly. "I do not care," he mutters into my shoulder.
A dances across my lips. I allow my eyes to flutter closed, and eventually I drift off to sleep in Mark's warm embrace.
