Castiel looked in the small mirror above his desk one last time and took a deep breath. His bedroom was a large room - the attic, actually - but because of all the bookshelves, it seemed a lot smaller than it was. Large, dark brown shelves surrounded the room and they were stuffed full of books of all kinds. Fantasy, astronomy, physics, anatomy, poetry. Anything that Castiel could get his hands on. On the one section of the room where there weren't any books, there was a small, black desk covered with homework and a small laptop computer. The mirror that lay above it was bordered with white painted wood and was about 1' x 3'. His chocolate colored hair looked raven black in the dimly lit room, but his icy blue eyes were still shining brightly. His white button-up and tan vest brought out the two stars that were his eyes and the blue jeans helped too. Castiel knew that his clothes wouldn't be these colours at the end of the day. He felt his side and flinched. It's still there... It had been a week since the bullies at his school had bothered him. Ever since middle school. I mean, I'm not the only gay guy at my school so why do they hate me so much? What did I ever do to them?

The high schooler sighed and walked down the stairs carefully avoiding the creaky ones in case anyone was still sleeping. In the kitchen, everyone was awake and eating burnt pancakes except for his eldest sister, Naomi and the younger kids.

"Look, Cassie! I made pancakes!" Castiel's oldest brother, Lucifer (Yes, that's his real name. It says so on his birth certificate and everything. The name does suit him though.) "Want some?"

Castiel's other brother, Gabriel shook his head at him while Lucifer wasn't looking and was miming choking. Lucifer turned around to face the other boys and Gabriel shoved a whole pancake / charcoal in his mouth and grinned stupidly. At least Gabe could cover up the taste of ash with sugar. His breakfast was covered in a mixture of M&M's, Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, and Hershey's Kisses. There's no way that tastes half decent at all. Castiel thought. Well, Gabe seems to like it, so I guess I can't say anything.

"I'm not hungry." Lie. Castiel knew he lied too much. To everybody. It was a bad habit and he knew it, but he'd never say anything about it out loud. He just didn't want to make his older brother feel bad, but there was no way he was eating that monstrosity.

"GIVE IT BACK!" There was a shout from downstairs.

"Gee who could that possibly be? It couldn't possibly be Anna, Hannah, Raphael, and Uriel. No way!" Lucifer said while flipping another pancake. Oops. Did I say pancake? I meant to say 'brick'.

"Luci, the amount of sarcasm you use in a day is getting to an unhealthy level."

Lucifer just sighed at Gabe's comment. "Dude, you use more sarcasm than I do."

"Yeah, probably. I guess I'm just amazing like that."

"Oh, sorry. That wasn't the impression I was trying to give. I take it back."

"No way! It's mine!" The shouts had grown a little quieter, but they were still quite deafening. What was it this time?

Castiel cautiously poked his head in the door to see two eight year olds, one ten year old and one six year old throwing everything they could find at one another.

There was Uriel and Raphael, the eight year old twins, Hannah, the ten year old, and Anna, the littlest of them. Uriel just liked to hit things while Raphael was overly obsessed with keeping order and listening to directions. Anna was constantly wandering off and getting lost and painting scarily well for a six year old, and Hannah, well, she just wanted to prove to everyone that they were all idiots.

"Why do you want my paints anyways?" The small redhead pouted.

Raphael looked offended. "Why are you questioning authority?"
