I hit the final note of There Are Worst Things I could do , the song I had chosen for my audition and exhaled smiling at the directors.
"Thank you Elizabeth. We'll be in touch." said the director smiling at me and nodding.
"Thank you" I said, before rushing out the door.
I tucked one of dirty blonde ringlets behind my ear as I gathered up my things that were sitting on the wooden bench outside the audition room. I turned on my heel and crashed into someone or something hard.
"Ah shit sorry" I deep voice with an odd accent exclaimed and I looked up to see a tall boy with purple hair. He bent down and started to help me pick up my books.
"It's fine really," I said, getting distracted by his large hands grasping my script.
"I didn't know there was a character in Grease with purple hair" I said smirking and he looked up at me, his eyes sparkling. The boy let out a low hearty laugh.
"I'm not actually auditioning. My bands using the venue to practice for a bit" he said as both of us stood up and he handed me my books and I realized that his accent was Australian.
"Thanks and I guess a band member would make more sense." I said, using it as and exuse to look him up and down.
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?" he questioned, jokingly sounding offending but I could tell by the smile on the face he took it as a compliment.
"Well first off, I don't know a single boy who would rather listen to Van Halen than a show tune" I declared, gesturing at his Van Halen shirt.
"I guess that's true. I'm Michael by the way" he said extending out the same hands I had been admiring earlier. I noticed now that he had two little finger tattoos. I shook his hands, which felt extremely smooth.
"I'm Elizabeth but everybody calls me Beth. Except for my Dad, he calls me Elizabeth because he has this thing about always callif people by their real names. Like my brothers name is William but.. I'm rambling aren't I?" I said and we both laughed, as Michael nodded.
"Sorta but I think it's cute." he said and I blushed. A shrill ring came from inside my pocket and I pulled it out, reading the call display. It was my best friend Erin. Crap. She was probably wondering where I was, considering I should have been in her car by now. I gave Michael and apologetic look and answered it.
"Hey Erin, I'll be out in a minute okay?"
I said and I could hear her sigh.
"What's taking you so long anyways?" she asked.
"I just got tied up. Don't leave without me"
"How'd the audition go anyways?"
"I'll tell you in the car" I sighed, glancing at Michael who was standing with his arms crossed, smirking.
"What?" I mouthed at him and he shook his head. I smiled.
"By the way I got you a coffee" Erin added and I smiled wildly.
"Just what I needed. You're the best, love ya" I told her, ending the call and slipping my phone into my pocket.
"I'm guessing that was your boyfriend?" Michael asked and I laughed.
"What?" he said, looking confused.
"I do not have a boyfriend. That was my best friend Erin, she auditioned earlier and now her and her boyfriend are here to pick me up" I explained.
"Oh well, I'm glad to hear it"
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Well now you and your friends can come to see my band play tomorrow" Michael told me confidently and I raised my eyebrows.
"Is that so? But I don't even know where it is or what time. And the most important question is I'm not sure if I want to go" I said crossing my arms and Michael raised his eyebrows.
"I don't think you really have a choice. You're gonna love it. And as for the details, how bout you just give me your number?"
"Only because that was super smooth" I giggled, rattling off my number as he punched the digits into his phone.
" Hey I gotta go now, but I'll call you okay?" he told me, looking over his shoulder.
"I should probably get going too, and I'll be looking forward to it" I said and moved past him, waking down the quiet hallways and towards the door. My phone rang again, this time with a text from Erin.
"Hurry up!! Your coffees getting cold" it read and I quickly texted back a reply.
"I'm walking out the doors right now"
As I made my way into the lobby, I ran towards the doors and quickly swung them open, which revealed Erin's boyfriend and my best friend Alex's black Jeep. I popped open the back door, throwing in my bag and script then climbed in. I slammed the door and Erin handed me my coffee, which was still warm.
"Ahh finally. Thank you for joining us Queen Beth" she joked and I playfully hit her.
"Peace in the kingdom" Alex said, gripping the steering wheel and keeping his eyes on the road.
We laughed and Erin undid her seatbelt, crawling into the backseat with me.
"What the hell is wrong with you? The vehicle is moving" Alex lectured and Erin rolled her eyes.
"Oh shutup. Keep your eyes on the road and not my butt and we wouldn't have a problem"
I laughed at the two of them, and thought back to Michael.
"So how'd your audition go?" Erin asked, staring at me with eager eyes as I took a sip of my coffee.
"Uhh, I think it went good. The directors clapped at the end and that's always a good sign" I told her and she nodded.
"I miss Jake so much" Erin said, referring to our old director, who we had worked with since we were first started doing theatre camp at five years old.
"Me too, but we both know he moved on to better things. If you had the chance to work on Brodway and get out of this stupid town, you know you'd go too" I explained.
"Maybe. Maybe not. What took you so long anyways?"
"Well.." I said, blushing.
"Oh my god. You met a boy. Was he cute?" Erin questioned.
"Well my idea of cute is much different than yours. I mean you think Alex is cute" I teased.
"Hey!" Alex exclaimed.
"Just kidding. But yes he was very cute. His names Michael and he accidentally knocked over all my stuff but he helped me pick it up and he's in a band and he invited us to his concert tomorrow night. And he even said my rambling is cute" I gushed.
"Well he's the first one to think that" Alex said and I hit him.
"Wait hold up. A concert? I'm so in" Erin said and I grinned as my phone rang with an unknown number.
"One sec. This is probably him" I said, answering it. "Hello?"
"Beth?" a deep raspy, Australian voice came from the other end.
