Cross town Blues

I thought life was treating me kindly

But even fools get fooled now and again

Through hard times and sorrow

You'll beg, steal or borrow

To help out your one good friend

Times was mighty fine, I was in my prime

A pretty girl and brand new car

But like a comet coming down

And crashing to the ground

I got hammered at a cross town bar

Might come in the morning

Never give any warning

Like a sledge hammer driving a spike

While the old man's snoring

Outside it's pouring

There's no telling when lightning's gonna strike

My best old friend always told me

We're brothers, right down to the battle scars

But he stabbed me in the back

Took my girl and Cadillac

And left me bleeding at a cross town bar
