Wonwoo's point of view
The beeping, faint smell of chemicals and whiteness of the room are all strange to Wonwoo when he opens his eyes. Of course he has been in hospital before so he guesses right away where he is.
But what makes it strange is that he doesn't know how he ended up there or why there's IV needle on his left arm.
The last thing he remembers is Seokmin's party. His awful headache, weak body and sluggish limbs remind him of the party pretty well.
He tries to remember what happened, but he can't really remember much. He only remembers the countless drinks he downed, dancing people and loud music but nothing unusual to all the parties he's been to.
He starts becoming anxious. What happened? What is his mother going to say? What's going to happen?
Wonwoo doesn't know whether he should be relieved or not when a rather pretty man in white jacket walks to the room.
"Um... Hi," Wonwoo greets embarrassed, cringing internally at how awkward he is.
"Hello, I'm Jeonghan," the doctor says politely smiling, extending his hand to shake hands with Wonwoo. Wonwoo grabs the man's hand, mumbling his name to him as they shake hands.
The doctor starts writing something down on his notebook as he looks at the monitor next to Wonwoo.
"How are you feeling?" The doctor - apparently called Jeonghan - asks, and Wonwoo has to admit to himself that the man's voice is somehow calming and soft.
"Umh... I'm okay."
"I don't want to rant at you," the doctor smiles apologetically, "but I think you should be more careful with your drinking. Underage drinkers are more vulnerable to alcohol poisoning."
Wonwoo stays quiet, regret and embarrassment filling him slowly.
"You were severely dehydrated and seems like you hadn't eaten much," the doctor explains, as he keeps glancing at the beeping monitor next to Wonwoo and scribbling something down, "so as you drunk too much alcohol too quickly, you got alcohol poisoning."
Wonwoo stares at his hands, his cheeks growing hotter out of embarrassment.
"You were lucky that your friend found you and helped you before something really bad happened. You could have choked on your vomit or your breathing or heartbeats could have stopped."
"You are lucky to have a friend that takes care of you like that."
******
For the next few days after Wonwoo woke up in hospital he lays in his bed, mostly sleeping. He needs to rest, and to be honest he is also too embarrassed to leave his room just yet.
Sometimes he gets up to get food or go to the toilet, but most of the time he just spends sleeping, listening to music, thinking or reading.
It's actually pretty good that he now stops for a second and thinks about everything. Thinking, and sometimes writing, helps Wonwoo sort everything out.
Also talking to his mother has helped him. They have talked a lot about Wonwoo's drinking and past week's dejection, and what surprises Wonwoo, is that his mother still understands him. After all she has been through because of Wonwoo and yet she still is on his side, supporting him. It's mesmerizing how sweet and understanding she is. Sometimes Wonwoo feels like he doesn't even deserve a mother like that.
Of course Wonwoo's mother doesn't support Wonwoo's drinking. But as Wonwoo explained to her the situation with Mingyu, she understood and gave her best support to him, giving him advice and listening to him.
"Wonwoo!" His mother shouts from the downstairs, just like she always does when she's feeling too lazy to actually walk up the stairs.
"Yeah?"
"I'm leaving to work now."
"Okay, have a good day!"
"Thanks, you too honey bun!"
Wonwoo chuckles at the nickname (she always calls him by different nicknames).
"Oh, and also! Mingyu is here, he wants to visit you!"
Wonwoo freezes at that. He doesn't know how he should react or act when he sees Mingyu. The last time they interacted properly was when they shouted at each other in front of the grocery store.
But Mingyu did possibly save him the day he got alcohol poisoning. At least that's what he has heard. When worried Hoshi had called him to ask how he was doing, he had told Wonwoo how Mingyu had broken the door to Seokmin bathroom just because he was worried of Wonwoo.
As his mother bids her goodbye to Wonwoo, and he hears the footsteps of Mingyu nearing him, he panics. Oh my god, I wish I had even bothered to look decent, he thinks miserably, running a hand through his hair, in attempt to make them look less messed up, which just makes his hair stick out to every possible direction.
There's a quiet knock on the door before it slowly opens, Mingyu peeking from behind it, "Hey..."
"Hi," Wonwoo answers lamely, in lack of better words.
"I wanted to come to see you," Mingyu explains quietly, as if he'd be scared of Wonwoo sending him off the house. It stabs Wonwoo to his heart slightly as he thinks how they used to just run to each others' rooms like they owned the whole house.
"Yeah, that's fine. Come in," Wonwoo says, and Mingyu dares to step to Wonwoo's room only to stand there awkwardly.
Wonwoo gestures him that he can take a seat on Wonwoo's chair or the bed where he himself is currently laying. Mingyu sits down on the chair.
There's a complete silent for a moment when the boys are both desperately searching for words to say.
"I... uh... Thank you," Wonwoo finally mutters.
"Uh, for what exactly?" Mingyu asks, confused.
"For coming to get me from the bathroom. No one else wouldn't have noticed anything."
"Oh... yeah, it's fine. I'd do that for you anytime."
Another awkward silence.
"I'm, uh, I was kinda really worried of you," Mingyu manages to say, keeping his eyes on his hands, as he keeps fidgeting nervously.
"Oh?" Wonwoo curses himself internally for the lack of rational thinking and talking.
"Yeah. And I've... I have missed you. A lot."
The words, and the way Mingyu lifts his head up to look Wonwoo in the eyes, all sincere and serious, makes Wonwoo's heart beat a tad quicker than before. He can't help a smile from spreading to his face.
"I missed you too."
It's barely a whisper but Mingyu hears it, and the smile that spreads to Mingyu's face reassures Wonwoo that maybe, just maybe, there's hope for them after all.
