"Margret Atwood represented the patriarchal social through a variety of differing literary techniques..."
Destiny's English lecturer babbled on and on in her ears, talking nothing but nonsense in Destiny's confused mind. Her ears were ringing and her desk spun. Not a good headspace to be in for a lecture.
"Oh god," she groaned under her breath. "Please just shut up..."
Her head dropped forwards onto her desk completely and her hand clasped tightly over her mouth. She was going to throw up. It was eight thirty am and she was already about to vomit her intestines out. Not a good start to the day.
"Psst," a voice whispered. "Psst!"
"Oh for god's sake," Destiny thought miserably. "What now?" She weakly turned her head to one side and presented the psst-er with her green face.
"You alright, Des?" It was Alexis, her worried green eyes fixing in Destiny's watery ones.
Destiny tried to answer but promptly felt bile build up in the back of her throat. Nope. It was definitely not a talking day. She shook her head weakly instead.
"You want me to take you to the nurse, babe? You look awful!" Alexis asked, reaching out and putting a warm hand on Destiny's shaking arm. Destiny didn't reply and simply put her head back down.
Alexis stayed there for a while before beginning to pack up her stuff. She then raised her hand, waggling her fingers in urgency.
"Sir! Can I take Destiny to the nurse? She's sick," Alexis asked, getting Destiny's belonging packed away as she did so.
"The Bible references - yes, that's fine Miss Callahan - littered throughout the novel..." The lecturer carried on, barely even breaking his flow to address the girl or her sick friend.
"Great," Alexis mumbled back, busily pulling both girls bags onto her shoulders and practically picking up Destiny herself as well.
By the time they made it out into the courtyard, Alexis was completely out of breath. She paused to catch it again, leaning Destiny against her.
"You don't make life easy, do you, Destiny?" She muttered between breaths.
"Hey, everything alright?" A loud voice called across to the girls. "Is Destiny okay?"
Alexis looked up, recognising the mess if curly brown hair and big brown eyes. Over the past few months she had become quite familiar with the boy. He had started to spend a lot of tine with the girls, despite the heckling he got for it from his friends. Alexis and Cathy had no doubts that Jack and Destiny would be together before the semester was over - not that Destiny had noticed Jack in any other way besides 'some boy she knew'. She was always so innocent when it came to guys, relationships didn't seem to be in her vocabulary. Her mind seeming to be always busy with other things.
"Hey, Jack. She's sick," Alexis explained. Jack bent down to try and see Destiny's face beneath her mess of hair, he was unsuccessful.
"Anything I can do to help?" Jack asked anxiously, looking back up at Alexis.
"Yes actually! Could you hold her while I call Katy? I think she needs to go home," Alexis replied, already pushing Destiny into his arms, letting their bags drop lightly to the ground as she fumbled for her phone.
After a brief conversation, Alexis hung up, looking relieved. Katy had answered almost immediately and was on her way to pick Destiny up.
It wasn't long before the three teens were seated on the kerb outside the college - Destiny with her head on her knees with her friends on either side of her - waiting for Katy to arrive.
